Semi-truck explosion left multiple people hospitalized in Sampson County, NC
Part of the interstate in Sampson County, North Carolina, is currently shut down after a massive semi-truck driving crash caused an explosion. Additionally, this crash involved multiple vehicles, with some drivers needing to be airlifted to the hospital. This is just one reason why so many fear driving near 18-wheelers, especially those carrying chemicals or large items.
Truck driving is typically a safe profession, but the rare crashes can sometimes cause mayhem
According to WRAL, the truck driving accident happened on the morning of April 29th, and it involved a tractor-trailer that was carrying fuel at the time. The accident began when the truck struck a passenger car that was driving at a lower speed, causing the truck to roll over with minor damage. However, the scene soon worsened when a pickup truck collided with the tractor-trailer, sparking a fire.
The truck driving accident didn’t end there. Another vehicle crashed into a median while attempting to avoid the fire and other vehicles. Following the multi-vehicle incident, authorities shut down the portion of the interstate near Exit 355 for both the east and westbound lanes. As of the latest reporting, it will remain closed until noon on April 30th. Both the North Carolina Regional Hazmat Team and Eastern Environmental Services are in the process of repairing the roads affected by the accident.
As mentioned, the truck driving accident caused several injuries that required medical attention. First, emergency responders airlifted the person behind the wheel of the semi-truck. Three other drivers sustained minor injuries and also went to the hospital. For now, drivers in the area will need to take a detour due to the crash. The good thing is that the crash had no fatalities despite its extreme nature. This is a developing story as the local law enforcement continues to investigate the crash.
