Toyota is rising in the ranks as one of the best pickup brands, even outranking the Silverado. One other brand, Nissan, also paved the way into the truck market. Putting the two up against each other reveals one stands out significantly when it comes to sales figures. One model is selling like hotcakes, while the other is falling flat. So, which pickup is more popular?

According to GoodCarBadCar, Toyota sold 59,735 of its Tundra pickups so far this year. Nissan didn’t fare so well with its sales on the Titan. Year-to-date sales show that the brand only sold 10,550.

There could be a few different reasons why the 2023 Toyota Tundra had significantly more sales than Nissan’s Titan pickup. One deals with its looks. With a new redesign, the Tundra has a more modern and appealing look to it, while the Nissan hasn’t had any major changes for a few years. However, it looks like next year is set for some refreshing on the Titan.

Another reason would be its performance, specifically with its 10-speed automatic transmission. The truck now drives smoothly and offers quicker acceleration. Nissan offers a 9-speed gearbox.

Lastly, Toyota gives you an available 14-inch touchscreen with its technology, while Nissan only musters an 8-inch display according to Edmunds

What you can expect with the Nissan Titan pickup

The Nissan Titan certainly isn’t that bad of a pickup, it just needs to keep up with some of its rivals and provide a redesign to compete in its segment. It still offers a 5.6-liter V8 engine producing 400 hp and 513 lb-ft of torque, which you can get on the base as standard equipment.

With this powertrain, you can expect 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. Rear-wheel drive is standard. When it comes to towing capacity, you can expect this model to haul 9,310 lbs.

As for features, you get parking assistance, Bluetooth, cloth upholstery, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a rearview camera, Nissan’s Safety Shield 360, a six-speaker stereo system, and blind-spot warning.

The warranty is pretty good with 5-year/100,000 miles for the basics and drivetrain. You also get 5-year/100,000-mile roadside assistance. As for starting price, you can expect an entry-level 2023 Nissan Titan model to cost you $42,140.

What else does the Toyota Tundra offer?

Powering up the Tundra is a 3.5-liter V6 engine generating 348 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain allows the pickup to get 18 mpg on city roads and 24 mpg when traveling on the highway.

You can also expect a four-wheel drivetrain, 18-inch steel wheels, heated mirrors, and traction control. As for towing, Toyota gives you a maximum capacity of 8,300 lbs, which is almost 1,000 lbs less than the Titan.

As for the interior, the pickup offers cloth upholstery, an 8-inch touchscreen (on the base), a nine-speaker system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, satellite radio with three months of service, keyless ignition, adaptive cruise control, interior air filtration, and lane-keeping assist.  Starting price for the entry-level version of the Tundra is a little less than the Titan.

Both models are good trucks, but the 2023 Toyota Tundra is selling more of its inventory than the Titan. With a major redesign on Nissan’s truck, it might be more of a competitor to the Toyota model. Since next year’s version offers some changes, maybe the Titan can pull ahead of the pack in its segment.
