Toyota’s flagship Tundra trim levels for 2022 are two very different trucks. The Tundra TRD Pro brings supertruck performance off road. The all-new Tundra Capstone looks to be one of the most luxurious new trucks on the market. But you can’t buy either of them, just yet.

The i-FORCE MAX hybrid won’t be available until summer 2022

Toyota unveiled its full-size Tundra pickup truck’s third generation for the 2022 model year. The all-new truck will eventually offer seven trim levels. That said, only five trims of the 2022 Tundra are available, until that changes sometime this summer.

The five Tundra trim levels Toyota currently offers are the entry-level Tundra SR, the SR5, the Limited, the Platinum, and the 1794 Edition. At the moment, these trucks are only available with the base engine: a twin-turbocharged V6. Instead of offering a V8, Toyota’s engine upgrade option will be a hybrid.

Toyota plans to begin building the all-new i-FORCE MAX drivetrain this summer. The company will sandwich a powerful electric motor/generator between the V6 and ten-speed automatic. The result is 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. In addition, the hybrid will use regenerative braking to increase the pickup truck’s range.

This new i-FORCE MAX will be an option on the Limited, Platinum, and 1794 Edition Tundra trim levels. But it will be the standard engine on the new Tundra TRD Pro and Capstone trim levels. For this reason, Toyota will not sell these top-trim trucks until halfway through the 2022 model year.

2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is tuned for off-roading

Though Toyota will not offer its new 300-series Land Cruiser in the U.S., we can buy much of the same off-roading technology in the Tundra TRD Pro.

The legendary SUV and new truck share an all-new chassis. This includes a fully-boxed frame to save weight. They also both have rear coil spring suspension. Finally, the Tundra TRD Pro features Toyota’s off-road driver aid software.

Firstly, the Tundra TRD Pro features trail cameras and a segment-leading 14-inch infotainment screen. While off-roading, you can essentially use the screen to look right through the hood of your truck to spot any obstacles.

Secondly, the new Tundra features a multi-terrain select (MTS) system. When you pick a surface (mud, snow, etc.) the truck uses its ABS to keep any of your tires from spinning out of control. If you need even more control, you can lock the electronic rear differential.

Finally, the TRD Pro has an off-road cruise control setting. You can select either CRAWL or hill descent, pick a speed, and the truck will idle along while you worry about steering.

Other off-road features of the TRD Pro include a factory lift kit with FOX shocks, mudflaps, skidplates, an LED lightbar in the grille, and 18-inch alloy rims wrapped in Falken WILDPEAK all-terrain tires.

Digital camouflage decor on its fender flares and seats sets the TRD Pro apart from other Tundra trucks. Its “TOYOTA,” racing-inspired grille is unmistakeable.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone will be one of the most luxurious trucks on the market. The all-new pickup comes fully loaded with unique 22-inch rims, and a unique chrome grille. It also features a sunroof, power running boards, and even a power bed-step.

Inside, the Capstone features 10-way power-adjustable front seats upholstered in semi-aniline leather. Toyota has finished the eye-catching white-and-black interior in two tones. The dashboard is trimmed with dark American walnut and blue LEDs.

If Toyota built a Lexus truck, it might look a lot like the luxurious Toyota Tundra Capstone.
