Much like other brands, Toyota is now offering a hybrid option for its full-size truck. The hybrid powertrain is available to select models and has a price tag of $3,400. For the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone, this powertrain does come standard. The hybrid system is paired to a 3.4-liter V6 engine and it has a combined output of 437 horsepower and 583 pound-foot of torque. But, does it justify its higher price point?

Should you buy a 2022 Toyota Tundra with the hybrid?

Depending on your needs, the hybrid setup on the new Toyota Tundra may be worth considering. But its combined mpg is still under 25. Which is a slight disappointment. Plus, in order to get this powertrain standard, buyers must opt for the TRD Pro or Capstone models. Both of which are not cheap.

However, some models do have this option available to them. Which will require shelling out nearly $3,500 extra in order to receive the benefits of a hybrid powertrain. Trim levels that have the 3.4-liter V6 hybrid engine available to them are the Limited, Platinum, and 1794 Edition.

In comparison to other full-size hybrid trucks, according to Car and Driver, the Toyota Tundra is cheaper to buy than a hybrid Ford F-150. It is worth noting that the Ford F-150 can achieve better gas mileage than the Tundra.

The new Toyota Tundra has a starting price of $35,950 and offers some sought-after features. When properly equipped, the 2022 Tundra can tow up to 12,000 lbs. Which is a fairly impressive number, and it can handle serious payload as well.

Other notable features that make this a good truck include its available electronically locking rear differential, four-wheel drive, and selectable drive modes. These will give buyers a truck that is ready to tackle rugged terrain.

Toyota also understands that new truck buyers want a vehicle with modern features and tech, and the 2022 Toyota Tundra will not disappoint. With this full-size truck, buyers can get safety features to improve driver confidence and infotainment will allow you to connect your mobile device to your vehicle.

The MSRP of the Toyota Tundra is $35,950, but that is just for a base model. Higher trim levels can become much more expensive than that. If you are shopping for the ultimate off-road truck, the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro starts at $66,805. For the top-trim Capstone model, that will run over $70,000. Of course, these two models come with more luxury and capability than the base Tundra.

Unfortunately, full-size trucks seem to only be getting more expensive. Making them a fairly sizable investment that is not worth it for everyone. But for those in search of a new, full-size truck that offers some added efficiency, optioning in the available hybrid powertrain to the Tundra may make sense. Just don’t expect Prius levels of efficiency from this model.
