In terms of sales, Toyota RAV4 dominates all other compact SUVs. Consumers are drawn to its practicality, stylish design, efficient hybrid models, and smooth ride. However, the RAV4 misses out on a fantastic new feature for the Chevrolet Equinox. Unlike the 2023 Toyota RAV4, the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV is an all-electric model.

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 has excellent hybrid models, including a plug-in hybrid version (Prime). However, the popular compact SUV doesn’t offer an all-electric model. While there used to be a limited-production RAV4 EV, it was discontinued in 2014.

Furthermore, compared to most other automakers, Toyota has been slow to go electric. In the past, it was known as an eco-friendly car brand with the Prius and other hybrids. However, this reputation has been somewhat tarnished, with it falling behind for EVs. It currently only sells one electric car in the United States: the bZ4X crossover SUV.

Conversely, Chevrolet and GM are devoting considerable resources for electric vehicles. This is exemplified by the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV. Like its SUV sibling, the Blazer, the Equinox is going all-electric for the 2024 model year. Gas-powered versions of the Equinox won’t be produced after 2023.

Advantages of the electric powertrain in the Chevy Equinox EV over the Toyota RAV4

The 2024 Chevy Equinox EV’s electric powertrain gives the compact SUV several advantages over the 2023 Toyota RAV4. This includes quick acceleration as a result of the instantaneous torque. Conversely, it takes more time for the gas engine in the RAV4 to reach peak torque output.

Also, with no vehicle emissions, the Equinox EV is less damaging to the environment. Gas-powered vehicles like the RAV4 cause more pollution and contribute more to climate change. Additionally, while the official MPGe estimates of the Equinox EV are not yet known, it will undoubtedly be more efficient than the RAV4.

Furthermore, the Equinox EV is easier to maintain. Like other electric vehicles, it has fewer moving parts than the RAV4 and other gas-powered SUVs. This translates to less costly repairs. Plus, the Equinox EV is quieter. Its electric powertrain makes less noise than the internal combustion engine in the RAV4.

2024 Equinox EV is also more technologically sophisticated than the 2023 RAV4

Additionally, there are multiple technologies in the 2023 Equinox EV that are not offered for the 2023 RAV4. The Chevrolet electric compact SUV has greater autonomous driving capabilities with the Super Cruise hands-free driving system for compatible highways. The Equinox EV also has a head-up display with a full-display camera mirror, as well as a blind-spot steering assist system.

Furthermore, the infotainment system in the Equinox EV is more advanced than the one in the RAV4. Also, there’s the option for a massive 17.7-inch screen. Conversely, the largest screen available for the RAV4 is 10.5 inches.

Another factor is affordability. While the Equinox EV has a higher starting price than the RAV4 ($30,000 vs. $28,275 MSRP), with the federal EV tax credit, it can cost as low as $22,500.

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 is a solid compact SUV. However, it misses out on the electric model for the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV. As Chevrolet goes electric, Toyota falls behind.
