The Toyota GR Supra 3.0 offers a sports car alternative to pricier models like the eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette and Lotus Emira. However, the Supra doesn’t just have to contend with the latest competition; some discontinued sports cars will still give the Toyota-BMW collaboration car a run for its money. So, is the now-discontinued C7 Corvette Stingray up to the standards of the latest and greatest 3.0L Supra?

The 2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 is a properly quick sports coupe. With 0 to 60 mph sprints finished in less than 4.0 seconds, the eight-speed automatic Supra will contend with the likes of the new Nissan Z, Ford Mustang Mach 1, and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye.

Moreover, the Supra 3.0’s smaller-milled sibling is no slouch. In testing, a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder trim managed a run to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds. That makes the more affordable Supra 2.0 quicker than a comparable four-cylinder Ford Mustang EcoBoost, despite a difference of 55 horsepower.

A 2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 and 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51 are neck-in-neck when it comes to acceleration to 60 mph. However, the on-paper similarities end there.

Sports car model0-60 mph¼ mileTop speed
2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.03.7 seconds12.3 seconds160 mph (governed)
C7 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z513.7 seconds11.8 seconds181 mph

According to Car and Driver testing, a C7 Corvette Stingray with an eight-speed automatic hit 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. An impressive sprint, but not one that will put it ahead of the GR Supra.

However, the gulf in horsepower and torque puts the 3.0L Toyota sports car behind the now-discontinued C7 in the quarter mile. Chevrolet claims the Stingray can clear the quarter-mile run in under 12.0 seconds, while MotorTrend coaxed a 12.3-second best out of the automatic Supra.

How much horsepower does a Toyota Supra GR Supra have?

The 2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 produces 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque with its 3.0L turbocharged inline six-cylinder B58 engine. Power figures like that put the Supra behind many of its closest competitors, like the Nissan Z and Ford Mustang Mach 1.

Still, the Supra 3.0 is much more muscular than its four-cylinder sibling, the Supra 2.0. Specifically, the Supra 2.0 caps its power output at 255 horsepower.

How much horsepower does a C7 Vette stingray have?

The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray from the C7 generation produces 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque in base-model configuration. However, General Motors offered the seventh-generation Corvette with an optional performance exhaust system, which bumped power output to 460.

As a result, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 is more than powerful enough to push the 3,436-lb ‘Vette past a quarter mile in under 12.0 seconds.

What car can defeat a GR Supra?

The Toyota GR Supra 3.0 is swift enough to outrun competitors like the traction-limited Nissan Z Performance. However, the latest midengine C8 Corvettes will outrun the Supra in every metric. Furthermore, the BMW M240i xDrive will out-sprint the Supra using the same B58 and grippy AWD.
