The 2024 Porsche 911 Turbo S is a balanced, sharp performance mainstay. However, even with its track-ready credentials and grippy all-wheel drive (AWD) system, the Turbo S isn’t without competition. In a recent 0-to-150-to-0 acceleration and braking test, the Porsche 911 model failed to out-brake an unlikely challenger from the American muscle car segment: the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse.

The 2024 Porsche 911 Turbo S boasts more power, lighter weight, and more grip than the Ford muscle car. Despite the 911 model’s advantages, the Dark Horse stopped harder and quicker than the turbocharged Porsche.

In Car and Driver’s latest acceleration and braking test, the 911 Turbo S scrubbed off 150 mph of straight-line speed in just 5.4 seconds. However, the Dark Horse managed to do the same task 0.2 seconds quicker and 17 feet shy of the Turbo S.

Of course, the test included an all-out sprint to 150 mph. Unsurprisingly, the Dark Horse was nowhere near the 911 model.

Still, the Dark Horse doesn’t stand a chance against the Porsche 911 Turbo S in an acceleration test

In the dash to 150 mph, the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse returned a time of 24.2 seconds. While that doesn’t seem like a sloth’s pace, it wasn’t anywhere near enough to match the 911 Turbo S.

Specifically, the 640-horsepower Zuffenhausen performance car hit 150 mph in just 13.5 seconds, a full 10.7 seconds quicker than the 500-horsepower Dark Horse. As a result, the Dark Horse’s organ-rearranging braking performance wasn’t enough to contend with the Turbo S’s overall performance in the acceleration and braking test.
