Looking for a hybrid due to high gas prices? Consumer Reports has some of the most fuel-efficient hybrid SUVs for 2022 from Honda, Toyota, and Hyundai. These sport utility vehicles have plenty of technology to offer buyers, too.

When Consumer Reports picked the most fuel-efficient hybrid SUVs for 2022, the Honda CR-V fit the bill. The hybrid version has only been around since 2020, but that doesn’t mean this SUV is lacking in anything. It received the “green choice” accolade and has high scores on the road test and predicted reliability.

40 mpg in the city, 35 mpg on the highway, which works out to 38 mpg combined. The hybrid version costs $1,200 more than the gasoline version, but Consumer Reports says the Honda CR-V hybrid will pay for itself after three years (with gas at $5 a gallon).

The Toyota RAV4 is another fuel-efficient hybrid SUV for 2022

For the 2022 Toyota RAV4 hybrid, the fuel economy numbers came in at 41 mpg in the city, 38 mpg on the highway, and 40 mpg combined. It will cost buyers $2,000 more than the conventional gasoline RAV4, but it does improve the fuel economy. Consumer Reports says that at $5 a gallon, the hybrid will pay for itself in three years. There is also a plug-in version available, called the Toyota RAV4 Prime.

Another option from Toyota is the Venza SUV

What can buyers expect from the 2022 Toyota Venza? Toyota reliability and good fuel economy. As one of the most fuel-efficient hybrid SUVs for 2022, the Venza gets 40 mpg in the city, 37 mpg on the highway, and 39 mpg combined. Consumer Reports gave the Venza high marks on the road test, predicted reliability, and owner satisfaction.

Price Range:  $33,240 – $40,730

The Lexus UX is a fuel-efficient hybrid SUV for 2022

The 2022 Lexus UX is a luxury sport utility vehicle that comes with a hybrid offering. It starts at $36,825 and gets 41 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. That works out to 39 mpg combined. Consumer Reports said the UX had a pleasant ride and comfortable interior but doesn’t have very much cargo space.

Price Range:  $33,450 – $40,790

The Hyundai Tucson received high ratings from Consumer Reports

Regarding scoring, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson received top marks from Consumer Reports. It was designated a green choice but also performed well on the road test, reliability, and owner satisfaction sections. This year, the Tucson comes in a regular and plug-in hybrid. The SEL Convenience hybrid starts at $32,350 and gets 37 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. The Tucson hybrid gets 37 mpg combined.

Price Range:  $24,950 – $43,200

More hybrid SUVs are due to hit the market in 2023, which means even more options going forward. If you are looking to buy a sport utility vehicle in the next few months, you might be able to find a good deal on an outgoing model.
