Missouri man drags 3 stolen Harleys across golf course during police chase
Golf, off‑roading, and motorcycling are all popular hobbies. But the three don’t mix very well. That didn’t stop one Missouri man from trying. The result was extensive damage to a golf course and valuable Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Iowa, Bryan Myers of Blue Springs, Missouri, arrived at Big Barn Harley‑Davidson in Des Moines late on a Friday night. He drove his truck and trailer through the glass door of the service garage. That action alone caused over $10,000 in damage.
Then Myers began loading three Harley‑Davidson motorcycles onto his trailer. Each bike was worth roughly $10,000. Just before 11 p.m., police spotted him stealing. He took off before they could block him in.
Police gave chase. Myers accelerated to about 90 mph in a 55‑mph zone. He still had the trailer bouncing with motorcycles.
Three miles into the chase, he turned into a residential area. Then he steered onto Woodland Hills Golf Course. Deputies followed him onto the green. The suspect tore up turf, leaving ruts and tire tracks across multiple parts of the course before he finally stopped.
Lt. Mark Chance says the department sees “crazy stuff,” but a chase across a golf course is unprecedented. “We’re just thankful … nobody got hurt because that’s pretty dangerous driving like that.”
Meanwhile, the $40,000 in damage to the Harley‑Davidson dealership and its inventory might only be the beginning. The golf course’s director warns it may take weeks to get the grounds back in shape. “There’s no miracle work when it comes to healing turf.”
