The SUV segment is packed with good options these days, but some sport utility vehicles offer more than others. Of these three popular midsize SUVs from Jeep, Subaru, and Chevrolet, two have more safety features at a lower price. Depending on your budget, one of the following midsize SUVs should check all of the boxes.

While Edmunds likes the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the midsize SUV segment has a lot of competition. Buyers can choose from various engines, including a new plug-in hybrid version. It has two rows of seats and room for five, but it can get expensive when you start adding features.

Edmunds liked the Selec-Terrain system that helps keep traction on the road. Quadra-Lift increases ground clearance and smooths the ride with an air suspension system. Jeep also includes Active Driving Assist to help with hands-free driving.

Unfortunately, the Grand Cherokee isn’t the most reliable vehicle out there. It also doesn’t have any safety ratings yet. Edmunds says the Limited trim is the best option and can still be upgraded through various packages.

MSRP Range: $39,000 – $66,155

There is a lot to like about the 2023 Subaru Outback. Edmunds says it has a spacious cabin and a comfortable ride. The Outback is also fairly capable off-road or in winter weather conditions. Subaru prices the Outback reasonably, which means you can get the top-of-the-line trim for under $45,000.

Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology comes with adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, and automatic foglights. Blind-Spot Detection and Lane Change Assist are also standard, not to mention the Subaru DriverFocus system that helps the driver stay focused on long drives.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2023 Subaru Outback high scores on its safety tests. These high scores were enough to receive the Top Safety Pick Plus award. Edmunds suggests the Onyx Edition XT trim out of the nine versions offered for this popular midsize SUV.

MSRP Range: $28,395 – $42,295

People often overlook the 2023 Chevrolet Blazer, but it remains a popular midsize SUV with a reasonable price. Most options get 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, for an average of 25 mpg. Chevy equips it with 228 hp and room for five in the comfortable cabin.

When the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration tested the 2023 Chevrolet Blazer, it received a five-star overall safety rating. It received five stars on important tests like the frontal barrier, side crash, and pole rating. Overall, the Blazer is a good option for those searching for a new SUV.

MSRP Range: $34,800 – $45,400

These popular midsize SUVs have the latest technology and safety tech buyers might want. With room for five passengers, these sport utility vehicles will get you safely and in style from point A to point B.
