Shelby debuted the over-800 hp Shelby GT 500 Dragon Snake Mustang at the 2019 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. And for 45-less horsepower, there’s also the Shelby Super Snake Sport F-150 with 755 hp. Take your pick if you’re looking for fast fun in a Ford.

Shelby already builds this exact pickup as a four-door F-150. This version is a more old school with its regular cab. The supercharged V8 gets tweaked to bump it up to 755 hp. Internals are left alone while the supercharger is replaced with a larger Shelby unit.

These also come lowered by two-inches for a meaner stance. The suspension also sees tweaks to handle the extra grunt. Shelby says it also tweaks the F-150’s body for slightly better aero. A new exhaust system helps the F-150 breath better.

The black racing stripes front-to-back are meant to evoke the days of Shelby Cobras and Mustangs in the 1960s. But, the build quality and horsepower are all 2020 goodness and speed.

If you’ve been wanting an F-150 Lightning you know Ford no longer makes them. The Shelby Super Snake Sport F-150 is a very good alternative.

Based on Ford’s 2020 Mustang fastback, the Dragon Snake name goes back to the 1960s and was used for drag racing versions of the Shelby Cobra. Back then it was described as a “weapon of track destruction” for drag strips. In the 1960s one could only imagine an 800 hp Ford Mustang. But, here we are. Isn’t it great?

The 0-60 times according to Shelby are too soon to tell, as this is only a proof of concept. Stock GT 500 Mustangs do the 0-60 in 3.3-seconds. So could the Dragon Snake pull off under three-seconds?

With those 800 ponies, some suspension mods were necessary for the anticipated quarter-mile assaults. The stock GT500 5.2-liter V8 engine was left alone internally. But Shelby didn’t completely ignore it. It messed with the tune for added performance. The supercharger was tweaked for better performance, and catalytic converters were swapped out for high-flow versions.

Shelby Mustang Light And Fast

The dual-clutch transmission was also tweaked to better withstand the brutal acceleration. The over-the-top carbon-fiber spoiler gives visual identification this is no ordinary Shelby Mustang. But, is it overkill in the looks department?

Shelby-style stripes front to back and those menacing snake graphics give the world all it needs to know this Mustang means business.

Shelby also found ways to lighten it for a little less weight to launch at the line. Things like the glass were swapped out for thinner pieces, and lightweight wheels come with the package. Rumors around the SEMA Show floated the idea of a wide-body version of the Dragon Snake. We’d love to see that happen.

Both of these Shelby builds are concepts-only at this time. With some positive reactions from the SEMA attendees, we can easily see each of them getting built.
