You don’t have to look far to find the 2022 Toyota Highlander. While it is a popular midsize SUV, iSeeCars says it is also one of the safest SUVs for 2022. Regarding safety scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2022 Highlander received a five-star score. The IIHS gave the SUV its Top Safety Pick Plus award, too. Toyota’s SUV had a rollover risk of 16.7% and offers 16 cubic feet of cargo volume. Safest SUVs with three rows? The Highlander checks those boxes.

Ford’s Expedition is also one of the safest SUVs with three rows for 2022

One of the things the 2022 Ford Expedition has going for is ample cargo space. Ford offers the Expedition in a few lengths, which means buyers get anywhere from 20.9 cubic feet of space up to 63.6 cubic feet of space. The Expedition received a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA, with high scores on the frontal and side crash rating. Regarding the rollover risk, the Ford Expedition has a 20.1% chance.

Don’t overlook the Honda Pilot and all of its room

If you need another good option, the 2022 Honda Pilot checks many of the boxes. The Pilot is spacious and safe, with more than 16 cubic feet of cargo space. The NHTSA gave the Honda SUV a five-star safety rating. No IIHS rating is available yet, but the NHTSA said the rollover risk was 16.8%. Some of the standard safety technology includes automatic emergency braking and automatic high beams.

Skip the Volkswagen Tiguan sport utility vehicle

When it comes down to it, the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan is an acceptable vehicle. It just isn’t the safest option on the market for 2022. The NHTSA didn’t give the Tiguan a rating, and the only standard safety features noted are automatic emergency braking. Safety group IIHS did provide the Volkswagen with SUV a Top Safety Pick award. If you are worried about cargo space, it ranges from 12.0 to 37.6 cubic feet.

The safest SUVs with three rows listed here range in price, but most of the options start under $40,000. Scores from the NHTSA hold a lot of weight because it is a government agency focusing on keeping people safe on the roads. The IIHS has a similar purpose.
