When it comes down to it, Consumer Reports is a big fan of the 2022 Kia Telluride. It received a higher score than the 2022 Toyota Highlander and all of the other midsize SUVs with three rows. Due to its popularity, the Telluride can be hard to find.

It has high scores on the road test, a stellar reliability history, and satisfaction from owners. The Kia SUV comes equipped with forward collision warning (FCW), lane-departure warning (LDW), blind-spot warning (BSW), and rear cross-traffic warning (RCTW) as standard features. Plus, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Telluride the Top Safety Pick award. The Telluride is a safe new SUV alternative to the 2022 Toyota Highlander.

The 2022 Palisade comes with FCW, LDW, BSW, and RCTW standard. From the IIHS, the Hyundai SUV received the Top Safety Pick Plus award. Hyundai made an excellent alternative to the 2022 Toyota Highlander in the Palisade SUV.

Mazda included the same safety features (FCW, LDW, BSW, and RCTW) standard, and the IIHS gave the CX-9 the Top Safety Pick Plus award. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the Mazda SUV high marks, including five stars on the overall crash test rating.

Don’t worry about if you can’t get your hands on this Toyota SUV. The Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, and Mazda CX-9 are suitable, if not better, alternatives to the 2022 Toyota Highlander. Keep an eye on sales for 2022 vehicles as more 2023 models hit the market. You might be able to get a good deal on a new SUV when that happens.
