Wranglers are far from efficient, but this PHEV adds something to the nameplate that it never achieved before: great fuel economy. Let’s run some numbers to determine the severity and scale of Jeep’s latest recall. A total of 45,000 Wrangler PHEVs were recalled. As far as we know, less than .0002% of those 45K small plug-in hybrid SUVs actually caught fire prior to the recall being issued.

So, that’s a drop in the puddle compared to the amount of existing Wrangler 4xe models. That said, it’s in Stellantis’ best interest to recall every model that could experience the issue. So, is the Jeep Wrangler PHEV safe? It’s about as safe as any other PHEV, and it should be even safer following the recall.
