The Toyota Corolla is one of the best-selling sedans of 2023 so far. However, despite the model’s popularity, the diminutive Toyota car can’t seem to contend with its own sibling. That’s right; despite a higher starting price, the 2023 Toyota Camry continues to outperform the sales figures of the smaller, more affordable Corolla.

The Toyota Corolla is the third best-selling sedan in the United States as of Q3 2023. Specifically, Toyota has sold 165,693 Corollas in 2023 so far, around 18,812 more than the closely comparable Honda Civic.

However, Toyota sold 222,216 Corollas in 2022, 56,523 more than the Japanese marque has this year-to-date (YTD). Furthermore, the compact Toyota car tends to sell fewer units in Q4, per GoodCarBadCar. As a result, it’s likely Toyota won’t sell as many Corollas as it did in the past four years.

What are the top three Toyota cars?

The Toyota Camry and Corolla are the brand’s top-selling sedans. However, neither model could keep up with the popularity of the marque’s best-seller: the Toyota RAV4. Toyota sold 302,831 RAV4 SUVs in the first three quarters of 2023, 84,856 more than the Camry midsize sedan.

Honda Accord152,202154,612
Honda Civic146,881133,932

The Camry is the brand’s best-selling car, outselling the Corolla, Tesla Model 3, and both of Honda’s best-selling sedans, the Accord and Civic. However, both popular Toyota sedan models can’t keep up with the most popular trucks and SUVs of 2023. In fact, the top three best-selling vehicles in the United States are the ubiquitous pickup truck options from the big three: the Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado, and RAM.

Is the Camry or Corolla cheaper?

The 2023 Toyota Corolla is cheaper than the larger Camry. Specifically, the Camry starts at around $27,415, around $4,420 less than the entry-level Corolla.

Toyota Camry$27,415
Toyota Corolla$22,995

However, the Corolla’s higher trims, like the Hybrid XLE, can start at as much as $28,145. Still, despite the Camry’s higher prices, the midsize sedan outsold its more affordable sibling.

What is Toyota’s best-selling vehicle?

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 is the top seller among the brand’s vehicles, outselling the Camry and Corolla by a wide margin. Specifically, the RAV4 is the fourth best-selling vehicle in the United States, behind the three top trucks and ahead of the wildly popular Tesla Model Y.

Still, with Americans’ affinity for SUVs, it’s unlikely that the Toyota Corolla will outsell its pre-COVID figures. Toyota sold over 350,000 Corollas in 2016. Today, it’s doubtful the Toyota model will come within 100,000 of that sales figure.
