Warranty coverage is a key consideration when deciding which new car to get. It provides the peace of mind that if your vehicle has mechanical or other problems, you won’t take a significant financial hit from costly repairs. There’s some variance in the duration of warranty coverage, with some longer than others. And a popular car brand has the best and longest warranty coverage in 2023: Hyundai, and its luxury division, Genesis.

Hyundai (and its luxury division, Genesis) is the car brand with the best and longest warranty coverage in 2023

The industry standard for car brand warranty coverage is a 3-year/36,000-mile basic “bumper-to-bumper” warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. However, the warranty coverage for Hyundai and Genesis, which the South Korean automaker founded in 2015, is much longer. New cars from them are backed by a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Also, the coverage for 2023 models doesn’t stop there. Two other automakers offer a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty for new cars: Kia, which is also Hyundai-owned but operates independently, and Mitsubishi. However, Hyundai and Genesis have something that neither Kia nor Mitsubishi offers: a complimentary maintenance plan.

The free maintenance plan is good for three years or 36,000 miles. It covers factory-scheduled maintenance, such as oil changes, tire rotations, multipoint inspections, and topping off the fluids. The complimentary maintenance plan makes servicing a Hyundai or Genesis vehicle a more affordable endeavor.

Hyundai has other warranty protections that go beyond other automakers

Furthermore, new 2023 Hyundai cars offer other warranty protections that surpass what other automakers offer for new cars. This includes a 7-year/unlimited-mile anti-perforation warranty. Perforation is the rust that occurs with a hole in the body panel of a car.

Also, the South Korean automaker has a 5-year/unlimited-mile 24-hour roadside assistance plan. If your vehicle breaks down, roadside assistance will provide, free-of-charge, such services as towing, jump-starting a battery, and changing a flat tire.

Additionally, as detailed by CARCHEX, Hyundai covers many features that are not protected by extended warranties. This includes:

  • Paint: 3 years/36,000 miles
  • Audio systems: 3 years/36,000 miles
  • Battery: 3 years/unlimited miles or 10 years/unlimited miles for EV/hybrid batteries
  • Vehicle adjustments: 1 year/unlimited miles
  • Air conditioner refrigerant charge: 1 year/unlimited miles
  • Replacement parts and accessories: 1 year/12,000 miles

Also, with a new Hyundai car, you’ll get long warranty coverage for emissions. This includes an 8-year/80,000-mile federal emission defect and performance warranty and a 7-year/70,000-mile California emissions control systems warranty.

Hyundai: Longest and best new car warranty coverage

If you desire the reassurance of generous warranty coverage, then Hyundai, and its Genesis luxury brand, are the way to go. Hyundai offers the longest new car warranty coverage in the automotive industry in 2023.

The 5-year/60-mile basic warranty, 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and 3-year/36,000-mile complimentary maintenance plan are the standout elements of the warranty coverage. However, Hyundai’s warranty protection goes even further. This includes a 5-year/unlimited-mile 24-hour roadside assistance plan, a 7-year/unlimited-mile anti-perforation warranty, and many features that are not typically covered by extended warranties.
