What do we want? More range! When do we want it? Now! Well, we don’t have more range yet, but the Ford Mustang Mach-E is working on a solution. The Ford Mustang Mach-E could get new battery chemistry that improves multiple features.

Ford has decided to go big instead of going home when it comes to electric vehicles, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E is a top priority. Ford wants to deliver 600,000 EVs by 2023, and the Mustang Mach-E accounts for 270,000 models.

Other options include 150,000 Ford F-150 Lightning modules, 150,000 Ford Transit EV vans, and 30,000 units of a mysterious new crossover for European markets.

To achieve this goal, Ford added new battery chemistry and secured contracts delivering 60-gigawatt hours (GWh) of annual battery capacity to provide 600,000 global EV models.

According to CarScoops, Ford will use lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) cell chemistry with its existing nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) chemistry. This will increase production and reduce range loss during years of use.

LFP is often viewed as the best option for EVs because they hold more energy, allowing for longer ranges. This could mean that the Ford Mustang Mach-E will go further on a single charge.

How much range does the Mustang Mach-E have?

The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E has a standard range of 247 miles. Adding all-wheel drive reduces this figure to about 224 miles.

With the extended range model, you get an estimated 303 miles of range, and AWD reduces this figure to about 277 miles.

The standard Mustang Mach-E has a rear-mounted motor that cranks out 260 hp, but it provides 290 hp in higher trim levels with 317 lb-ft of torque. The extended-range model has two motors to deliver 346 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque.

With the two motors, the extended-range Mustang Mach-E can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.2 seconds. It can tow up to 2,205 lbs and carry up to 165 lbs on the roof.

The Whisper driving mode is peaceful and serene, while the Engage mode tightens up response times and adds vehicle sounds for a little more excitement.

Unbridled mode creates a sporty sensation with orange ambient lighting, increased throttle responses, and a delightful engine roar.

How do you charge the Mustang Mach-E?

The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E comes with a home charger that can be used with a 120V outlet. But this method could take up to 95 hours for a full charge. It adds abou three miles per hour.

But with a 240V outlet at home, you can fully recharge the Mach-E in about 15 hours. With a DC fast charger, you can increase the charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 45 minutes. A level 2 public charger takes 5 to 10 hours to recharge the battery fully.

Use the FordPass app to easily find charging stations in the Electrify America network. The app can also be used to view charging data and keep track of energy usage.

Perhaps the new battery chemistry will improve charging times and help keep the batteries cooler too. We will keep an eye on the Mustang Mach-E to see how the new battery tech impacts its performance.
