The VW Golf family has shrunk in recent years with the departure of the standard Golf hatchback and its wagon versions — the SportWagen and Alltrack — from the North American market. However, the Volkswagen Golf R remains and continues to serve as the pinnacle model in the Golf lineup with added performance and kit over its sporty Golf GTI stablemate. So, how much can car shoppers expect to pay for a new Golf R, from top to bottom? Here’s how much a fully loaded 2024 Volkswagen Golf R costs.

The 2024 Volkswagen Golf R starts at $45,455 MSRP

The 2024 Volkswagen Golf R is mostly a carryover model, though a few tweaks have been made. The model now comes with power-folding exterior mirrors and a new design for its 19-inch wheels. VW also announced the 2024 model will be the last to be offered with a manual transmission.

All Golf R models are equipped with a turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivering a notable 315 horsepower that pairs with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Peak torque is 280 lb-ft with the manual and 295 lb-ft with the dual-clutch unit.

The Golf R features an R-Performance all-wheel drive system with torque-vectoring, an adaptive suspension, and cross-drilled front and vented rear brake rotors to take advantage of its ample power.

The 2024 VW Golf R starts at $45,455 MSRP, excluding a $1,150 destination fee. The Golf R serves as a standalone model, so no additional trims are available, though buyers can choose transmissions and optional add-ons.

Standard exterior highlights include 19-inch alloy wheels with summer performance tires, LED headlights, taillights, and running lights, power-folding and heated exterior mirrors, rain-sensing front wipers, and a power panoramic sunroof.

The cabin features leather upholstery, ventilated front sport seats, a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, tri-zone automatic climate control, heated front and outboard rear seats, a heated steering wheel, adjustable ambient lighting, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat with center armrest.

Notable tech features include a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, a 10-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless charging, a Harman Kardon audio system, and satellite radio. Two front USB data ports and two rear charge ports are also equipped.

Standard driver aids include forward collision mitigation, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a head-up display, front and rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, and lane-keep assist. Adaptive cruise control is also standard, and the system features stop-and-go functionality in models equipped with the automatic transmission.

Options and accessories for the 2024 VW Golf R

The 2024 Volkswagen Golf R’s six-speed manual transmission is standard, with the dual-clutch automatic adding $800 to the price.

Three exterior paint colors are available — Pure White, Deep Black Pearl, and Lapiz Blue Metallic — as no-cost options.

With the Golf R serving as a fully loaded trim, there are no options packages from which to choose, but buyers have a selection of accessories that can be added. Some notable accessories include roof carrier bars ($415) that are required for an available bike holder, cargo box, snowboard/wakeboard/ski, or kayak holder. Buyers can also accessorize with VW-branded wheel center caps ($185), LED dynamic turn signals on the exterior mirrors ($275), all-season floor liners ($200), or VW/R-branded center wheel caps ($185). A rear bumper protection plate is available for $129, and rear window sunshades can be equipped for $270.

A 2024 VW Golf R with an automatic transmission and all available, non-conflicting accessories rings in at $51,865. However, that price includes all available “lifestyle” accessories for transporting bikes, a kayak, etc., so buyers should expect their model to cost less, barring dealer markups.
