Are you considering a 2023 Jeep Compass as your next compact SUV? The model is gaining a few minor upgrades that turn out to be major improvements over the outgoing model. The automaker addressed some of the biggest issues critics have had with one of the smallest Jeep models. An increase in engine power, improved fuel economy, and a new 4×4 system make the Compass worth another look. If the compact SUV from Jeep wasn’t on your radar in 2022, the improvements made for the 2023 model year might make you change your mind.

A new 2023 Jeep Compass engine is a minor upgrade

First, the most significant change to the 2023 Jeep Compass is the engine. Instead of a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that’s been, as Cars.com put it, “unloved,” the compact SUV now comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder under the hood. As a result, it makes 200 horsepower instead of 177 like it did in previous model years. Although it’s only a minor upgrade, it’s a major improvement over the outgoing model. Critics haven’t had a chance to drive the new Compass yet, but Jeep claims the new engine improves acceleration and responsiveness.

Unfortunately, the popular brand has not yet released the final fuel economy or performance numbers. We expect both metrics to improve over the 2022 model year. Furthermore, these minor 2023 Jeep Compass upgrades are a significant improvement because what compact SUV owner doesn’t want better performance and fuel economy from their new vehicle?

New standard features are a major upgrade

Next, Cars.com says a few things are now standard on the 2023 Jeep Compass for the first time. For example, the Active Drive 4×4 system is now standard on every version of the Compass. Previously used primarily for the Trailhawk off-road model, this makes the entire lineup of Compass models more viable. In addition, the Trailhawk model gets Active Drive Low, which tweaks the same 4×4 system, allowing it to have a 20:1 crawl ratio.

However, like all vehicles, off-roading and 4WD aren’t the only essential things. Minor upgrades to the suite of standard safety features add a lot to the Compass. Every version now has a rear seat alert, a security alarm, and a drowsy driver alert. Additionally, automatic high beams are now standard on the Latitude trim and higher. Lastly, there is now a 17-inch wheel option for Sport and Latitude variants if buyers wish to upgrade.

2023 Jeep Compass trims, pricing, availability

Finally, Jeep has not confirmed pricing for the new 2023 Compass yet. However, it has been confirmed that the trim lineup is exactly the same as it was for the previous model year. Sport, Latitude, Altitude, Latitude Lux, Limited, Red, High Altitude, and Trailhawk trims make up the Compass lineup again. The compact SUV is available for ordering right now, and the automaker says full pricing details will be announced closer to its on-sale date in the first quarter of 2023.

Do these minor 2023 Jeep Compass upgrades improve the model enough to get it on your radar? Do you need more than a slightly beefier engine, standard 4×4, and more standard safety features?
