Let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to participate in a high-speed race between the McLaren 720S and a Tesla Model S Plaid? While it might seem like McLaren has this race, Tesla is here to remind you that electric vehicles are the future.

Or, the Tesla Model S Plaid races the McLaren 720S. The McLaren 720S has some pretty spectacular numbers, claiming to get around 1,000 hp. The “720” in 720S stands for the 720PS (710bhp). It has a maximum speed of 212 mph and gets from 0 to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds. Realistically speaking, the McLaren is one of the faster cars on the road these days.

The Tesla Model S Plaid is a tri-motor all-wheel drive electric vehicle. It gets from 0-60 mph in 1.99 seconds and has 1,020 hp at peak power. In the old days, most people would put money on the McLaren pulling away from the Model S. However, it is not the old days, and Tesla has this new game locked down.

For the record, the 2021 McLaren 720S price starts at just under $300,000, while the Plaid price starts at $124,490.

The Tesla Model S Plaid makes the McLaren 720S look slow

There aren’t many production cars that are faster than the Plaid right now. Unless you go up in price to supercars like a Bugatti or Koenigsegg, the Model S Plaid seems to have everyone else beat. If you watch the YouTube video by Hoonigan, one of the guys says, “you are fighting back the future right now” about beating Tesla. Unfortunately, the future won.

The first round was a 1,000 ft race with the McLaren 720S head to head with the Tesla. The Plaid was so far ahead the 720S wasn’t even in the shot for a few seconds. For round two, it was a similar result from a 1,500 ft roll race. The McLaren was able to keep up at first, but the Plaid still pulled ahead in the end.

The Model S loaded some passengers into the vehicle for the final race to make it more even. The McLaren 720S got a head start, but it was still no match. The Model S caught up to it and passed but just by a hair.

A hypercar and the fastest production car ever made make for a good race

It would be interesting to see the new Lucid Air Dream Edition partake in this race. As far as cars go, the McLaren is the top of the line. However, the Model S Plaid isn’t scared. The results of this race might surprise some people who haven’t had the chance to ride in a Tesla recently, but it won’t surprise the EV enthusiasts.

If it came down to it, both cars should get a trophy that says “job well done.” The Tesla driver didn’t do much, but the McLaren 720S driver did his best and almost crashed into bales of hay at the end there. Hats off to everyone here, that was a great race.
