The 2023 Subaru Solterra made its world premiere on November 10th, 2021. President and CEO of Subaru Tomomi Nakamura unveiled many key details about the upcoming electric SUV. Did you miss this huge easter egg in the world premiere?

Footage of Subaru’s President test-driving the 2023 Subaru Solterra is a huge clue about its capabilities

The 2023 Subaru Solterra world premiere video is almost 10 minutes long. Considering the fact that the average attention span in the age of social media is much less than a minute, you may have missed a view things. Don’t worry. We got you covered.

After watching the premiere video several times, it became clear that Subaru President Tomomi Nakamura didn’t actually have to verbally reveal much about the electric SUV itself to give Subaru fans a glimpse of what’s to come. Nakamura spent the majority of his time speaking on Subaru’s partnership with Toyota, the roots of the Solterra, and what the SUV means for the future of the brand. The real juicy details are in the footage of the Solterra in action.

The beautifully edited video combines multiple clips of the Solterra driving. In one scene, Nakamura himself gives the Solterra whirl. Nakamura narrates over the footage of him driving the Solterra in different types of terrain and praises the its all-wheel drive system. AWD, big whoop, right?

Many of Subaru’s current SUV models come with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. This system allows for the best traction possible. Accoring to The Verge, the new electric SUV will also feature Subaru’s X-Mode traction control system. This nod to the Solterra’s AWD combined with the fact that it will feature X-Mode means one thing: the Solterra is off-road ready. It may not be crawling any rocks, but based on the video footage, it knows its way around a trail. Nakamura even took the Solterra down a steep dirt hill.

The Toyota bZ4X reveal is a very different video from the Subaru Solterra reveal

Since the 2023 Subaru Solterra and the 2022 Toyota bZ4X share a platform, it’s hard not to compare the two vehicles. When it comes to unveiling the vehicles, the differences between the two automakers are as clear as day and night.

Toyota’s bZ series reveal video is of a similar quality to Subaru’s Solterra world premiere, but the Japanese automakers clearly aimed to highlight different features. Toyota focuses more specifically on the capabilities of the new battery technology that would be used in the bZ series of vehicles in its video.

Toyota’s video also focused more on the impact of beyond zero vehicles on the planet. The company’s video was over four minutes shorter than Subaru’s Solterra world premiere. We may get another bZ4X video in the future, but for now, the Solterra seems like the better electric SUV to take off-road.

Should you buy the 2023 Subaru Solterra?

The Subaru Solterra is a historic SUV for the Japanese automaker. President and CEO Tomomi Nakamura describes it as the “cornerstone” of new electric Subaru models. Subaru has seen great success with SUV models that can handle off-road fun, so the Solterra will likely be marketed to the same audience and the Forester, Crosstrek, and Outback. It may be a good idea to hold off on buying the Solterra until more details about the electric SUV and its competition are revealed.
