Sedans and SUVs typically get all the attention, but what about hatchbacks? Hatchbacks are fun to drive, have plenty of room for cargo, and offer the flexibility drivers are looking for. Even better, if you’re searching for a used hatchback for your travels, buying one may not be as expensive as you think. In fact, Kelley Blue Book (KBB) picked the 10 best-used hatchbacks for under $8,000.

1. The 2009 Toyota Prius

Despite being an older model, the 2009 Toyota Prius is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a fuel-efficient vehicle, reports Kelley Blue Book. Plus, Toyota models are known to hold their value, even years down the road – sounds like a win-win!

2. The 2012 Mazda3

Practical and great for conquering your daily commute? That sounds like an excellent combination. Inside this used hatchback, you’ll be greeted by a well-equipped interior with many user-friendly instruments and soft-touch surfaces.

3. The 2012 Honda Fit

According to KBB, the 2012 Honda Fit is a great “fit” if you’re looking for a more compact option. However, don’t let its size fool you. It can still comfortably seat four adults. The 2012 Honda Fit is also highly fuel-efficient and gets up to 35 mpg on the highway.

4. The 2012 Scion xB

From a glance, you might think the 2012 Scion xB is a crossover since it has a blocky exterior design. However, according to KBB, this used hatchback boasts nimble handling and comes equipped with an efficient four-cylinder engine under the hood.

5. The 2013 Kia Soul

Unlike the Scion xB, the 2013 Kia Soul has a more forward-leaning stance and sloped rear windows. The large trapezoidal headlights add character to this vehicle. If you’re looking for a spacious used hatchback that will grab attention wherever it goes, this one’s for you.

6. The 2012 Toyota Matrix

The 2012 Toyota Matrix is easy to maneuver through city traffic and tight parking spaces. Some models even come equipped with available all-wheel drive. When priced for under $8,000, that’s a great investment.

7. The 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour

Don’t worry if you can’t find a 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour immediately. These cars can be challenging to find if you’re in the market for a used hatchback. However, if you like the familiar sedan body style but need a lot of extra room for cargo, it’s worth searching for.

8. The 2012 Honda Insight

According to Kelley Blue Book, “The 2012 Honda Insight may remain in the shadow of the Toyota Prius, but it’s still a roomy, practical, efficient hybrid with a spacious hatch area.” It’s also more affordable, which is a huge plus if you’re shopping for a used hatchback under $8,000.

9. The 2010 Pontiac Vibe

If the spacious SUV-like Pontiac Vibe reminds you of the Toyota Matrix or the Corolla, that’s because it was built on the same platform. Depending on the model, it’s also available with all-wheel drive.

10. The 2016 Nissan Versa Note

The Nissan Versa Note will get you and your passengers where you need to go. It’s not the most heart-pumping or feature-equipped model on the list, but it gets the job done! It’s also a good option for younger drivers.
