According to AutoBlog, a Toyota RAV4 redesign could be coming as soon as 2024. Thus far, this date is only speculation, but it’s clear that the best-selling SUV in the world could use an update because of how quickly the small SUV vehicle segment is changing.

Some small SUVs that the Toyota RAV4 competes against that recently got redesigned include the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, and Honda CR-V. The Honda CR-V has been competing against the RAV4 for decades, so its redesign could prompt Toyota to make a move. The Sportage, Tucson, and CR-V all look futuristic following their redesigns. The Toyota RAV4’s exterior is simple in comparison.

A 2024 redesign could be great for the RAV4 nameplate because its vehicle segment is heating up. Mazda recently introduced the Mazda CX-50, which is larger and more rugged than the CX-5. Its pricing is also attractive.

Toyota may have the best-selling small SUV for now, but if it doesn’t act quickly, the Japanese automaker could be dethroned. A redesign could solidify the RAV4’s position and give it a better chance at taking market share from small SUVs that look newer.

Toyota redesigned several of its nameplates recently, including the Toyota Tundra, Toyota Sequoia, and the Toyota Prius. Each model has benefitted greatly from their redesigns. A redesigned version of the best-selling SUV in the world could bring more attention to the entire lineup. Toyota is clearly in a transitional phase as it pivots to adjust to electrification and changes in the industry. If there was ever a time to redesign its small SUV, it’s now.

The Toyota RAV4 isn’t the quickest or best-looking small SUV in its vehicle segment. It isn’the most affordable either. The RAV4 is special because it’s practical, fuel-efficient, and dependable.

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 starts at $27,575. It uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to make 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The small SUV gets 27 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon on the highway.

Edmunds praises the Toyota RAV4’s comfy ride quality and spacious cabin and cargo area. Car and Driver compliments its driver assistance features and driving dynamics. The RAV4 remains one of the best choices in its vehicle segment. That being said, there are plenty of rivals that offer fierce competition. The 2023 Hyundai Tucson and 2023 Honda CR-V are getting plenty of recognition. Does Toyota need to redesign the Toyota RAV4 for it to remain competitive?
