How The Epic Ford Edge Slams The EcoSport
Everyone is entering the compact SUV game. That’s why options such as the Ford EcoSport and Ford Edge exist. However, not every little SUV that comes to the market is a good option to buy and this is abundantly clear with the Ford EcoSport. We highly suggest considering the Ford Edge Instead.
The Ford Edge VS. The Ford EcoSport
The only reason to buy the Ford EcoSport over the Ford Edge would be to save some money. The Ford EcoSport starts around $19k while the Ford Edge starts around $31k.
That is one huge price jump between these two Ford SUVs, and it might be worth the extra money to invest in the Edge over the EcoSport in the long run.
Ford Edge And Ford EcoSport Performance
With a name like EcoSport, you can expect two things. A better fuel economy and some power that makes this little SUV fun to drive.
However, the Ford EcoSport doesn’t deliver those things. It only gets an average of up to 27 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. For a smaller SUV, the EcoSport should get at least 30 mpg on the highway.
Also, it’s power is greatly lacking. The Ford EcoSport has two engine options that don’t get us excited at all.
There is a 1.0-liter three-cylinder option and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder option. Depending on which one you choose, you get between 123 to 166 horsepower, so don’t expect to go fast. It takes the Ford EcoSport a staggering 10.7 seconds to reach 60 mph.
The Ford Edge actually surprised us with a pretty good fuel economy for its class. It gets up to 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
Plus, the Ford Edge has more power. It has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 250 horsepower.
You can also upgrade to the 2.7-liter V6 engine for 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. The Ford Edge can tow up to 3,500 lb making it capable, unlike the EcoSport.
The Ford Edge also can go from 0 to 60 mpg in 7.5 seconds, which isn’t the slowest but also not the fastest.
Ford Edge And Ford EcoSport Features
At least the EcoSport is offered in all-wheel drive, giving it the ability to traverse in slippery conditions such as snow.
However, the EcoSport is incredibly lightweight. We would be nervous to take on snow in this model.
The Ford Edge is also available in AWD and drivers have reported positive reviews for its power and ability to navigate through snow.
You can tell with the interior of the EcoSport that Ford had to cut costs. The interior is plain and full of cheap materials like plastic.
The Ford Edge has a more attractive interior for a luxurious feel while driving. There are also convenient features such as wireless charging for your smartphone.
Most importantly, the Ford Edge is safer with more driver assistance features including Evasive Steering Assist, Auto-Beam headlamps, and more.
The Ford EcoSport should be avoided for an SUV that can actually get you places. Avoid this weak option for the more powerful, smarter, and much safer Ford Edge.
