GMC added new tow-ready features to this year’s model

The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 is built to tow. Whether you’re hauling livestock or your favorite weekend toys, you can count on this pickup to get the job done. Not to mention, GMC added a slew of new tow-ready features to this year’s model.

These new features are part of the Sierra’s available trailering technology suite. The suite includes features like jack-knife alerts, a trailer length indicator, enhanced rear trailer view with rear guidelines, an enhanced rear side view, and a cargo bed view with zoom and hitch guidance.

When talking up these new features, GMC Marketing Director Rich Latek explained, “Trailering is essential for pickup truck customers. More than half of our Sierra customers use their trucks to primarily tow equipment for outdoor adventures.”

“We continually listen to customer feedback, which tells us they want safety, technology and comfort to tow what they need, whether it’s a boat, an RV or a trailer hauling off-road toys,” Latek added.

But how much can the GMC Sierra 1500 tow?

With the GMC Sierra 1500’s all-new features out of the way, let’s talk about how much this brawny pickup can tow. Because when it comes down to it, while features are important, it’s numbers that matter most.

Fortunately for the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500, it’s able to tow a pretty hefty amount. According to GMC, the Sierra 1500’s 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine added 1,900 pounds of trailering capacity on 2WD configurations this year, giving it a maximum towing capacity of 9,300 pounds. The 2.7-liter turbo engine also added 2,300 pounds of trailering capacity, delivering a maximum towing capacity of 9,200 pounds.

At its strongest, though? The Sierra’s max tow rating comes in at a whopping 11,800 pounds.

The GMC Sierra 1500 has more to offer than strength

But the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 is more than a beefy pickup. While it certainly offers several tow-ready features and is undoubtedly built for a long day of work, it has plenty of other features worth mentioning as well.

Slip behind the wheel of this year’s model, and you’ll be pleased to find that it offers best-in-class front head and legroom when you opt for the crew cab model. With winter just around the corner, its heated driver and outboard front passenger seats are also quite alluring.

The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 is no stranger to tech features either. Available with a 15-inch multicolor head-up display, this year’s model can also be had with a GMC infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and WiFi hotspot capabilities.

Is the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 the right pickup for you?

As it turns out, the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 can tow quite a lot. But does that mean it’s the right pickup for you? Well, if you’re in the market for a brawny pickup with a long list of premium features, then the new GMC Sierra 1500 might just be the pickup that all of your automotive dreams are made of.
