After the initial release of the old Hummer model, the SUV went away for a long time. Due to terrible fuel economy, among other things, customers completely lost interest in owning one. However, the new Hummer EV is everything those customers, and many others, always wanted. Not only do you get the big, beefy Hummer body, but you get it in electric form, with zero trips to the gas station. Is there a lot of interest in the GMC Hummer EV? Here’s how many Hummer EV reservations GM received for the electric truck and SUV.

General Motors reported its quarterly earnings and set many new sales and earnings records. According to Muscle Cars and Trucks, the company set records for full-year net income, EBIT-adjusted, EBIT-adjusted margin, and Earnings Per Share. Additionally, the automaker shared details about what analysts can expect for the 2022 calendar year. Finally, it disclosed the number of reservations it received for the Hummer EV, which totaled nearly 59,000. This number includes both the truck and SUV versions of the Hummer EV.

While that might not sound like a crazy amount compared to other models, like the F-150 Lightning, consider the price. These are the special edition versions of the Hummer EV, which cost more than $100,000 each. Not only is that a ridiculous amount of money for the automaker, but it also shows how badly customers want a Hummer EV. A massive price tag like the Hummer EV’s will often deter potential buyers, but it still got 59,000 on board.

Are customers receiving their GMC Hummer EV pickup truck yet?

According to the earnings report, “GMC HUMMER EV Pickups are on their way to customers.”. Hummer EV Edition 1 electric pickup models have been rolling off the GM Factory Zero assembly line since December 2021. You may have seen the celebratory grand opening event with President Joe Biden. According to Muscle Cars and Trucks, the production comes after fewer than two years of vehicle development time, which is quite unusual for most automotive processes.

Since GM revealed the Hummer EV early, it allowed engineers to skip steps in the process, like testing with layers of camouflage. Since people already knew about the design of the vehicle and most of the details, quick testing was much more accessible. Although this is good news for those who preordered a Hummer EV unit, it’s difficult not to feel a bit worried about the quality of the over $100,000 electric vehicle. The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 truck starts at $110,295 with one configuration and paint color.

Where’s the GMC Hummer EV SUV?

The SUV version of the Hummer EV will also launch with a limited Edition 1 package. It’s supposed to become available in early 2023, so it’s still a long way out. The SUV will be a 2024 model year vehicle and starts at $105,595 without the Extreme Off-Road Package. On the other hand, the pickup truck is not available without the package, so it starts nearly $5,000 higher.

At 270 fewer horsepower than the truck, the Hummer EV SUV still makes a whopping 830. It only comes with a single configuration option and exterior color, but the special “Moonshot” interior is a unique one to be desired. Unlike the pickup truck, the SUV gets a special edition interior setup to go with everything unique to the first production models.

Nearly 59,000 people made Hummer EV reservations

It doesn’t seem like much compared to the 150,000 or more people who made Ford F-150 Lightning reservations. However, the GMC Hummer EV carries a price tag of over $100,000. Both the pickup truck and SUV are wildly expensive, making it that much more impressive the automaker received so much interest. It’s difficult to sell anything for that price, let alone a brand new electric model that’s never been sold before. As more and more Hummer EVs are produced and delivered, expect to see one on the road near you soon.
