If you thought you knew about all the Ford SUVs, think again. The Ford Everest was built to be capable and comfortable, ready for whatever weekend adventures drivers might throw at it. However, the inside was meant to be somewhat of a sanctuary. Quiet and relaxing, as relaxing as a three-row SUV can be. Either way, the Ford Everest is the SUV we all want but cannot have unless you accept the Ford Ranger pickup truck as a suitable substitution.

Unfortunately, Americans will miss out on the Ford Everest. The 2022 Everest was sold in Thailand and Vietnam, and an Everest Wildtrak V6 was available in Thailand and New Zealand earlier this year. Ford notes that the Everest will come available with different specs depending on where it is sold. In some areas, a 3.0L turbodiesel V6, two 2.0L turbodiesel inline-fours, and a 2.3L EcoBoost (gasoline). The automaker said the newest version of the Everest is ready for challenging work on the outside, and the high-tech interior is inviting for trips to and from work.

Ford emphasized comfort with the Everest SUV, realizing that consumers worldwide also want a vehicle with good balance. Yes, the Ford Everest can tow heavy loads, and the increased horsepower for the newest model is helpful. However, a driver-focused interior makes life a little easier for the late hours of the day.

David Grice, chief platform engineer of the Ranger and Everest, said, “We wanted Everest to be rugged on the outside and peaceful on the inside.” The cabin is extra quiet, thanks to that. Ford’s newest SYNC system has voice-activated communications, a factory-fitted modem for better mobile connection, and even features like remote start and unlock with the FordPass app.

Oddly enough, the Ford Everest is based on the Ford Ranger pickup truck. Car and Driver say that allows the automaker to use the same engine in both the Everest and Ranger, and the two vehicles share a similar interior. The Everest and the newest Ranger have a large vertical touchscreen in the center and a digital gauge cluster to display important driving information. Ford offers two different-sized touchscreens and some other customizable features throughout the cabin.

The Everest and the Ranger use C-shaped LED headlights and share a grill, but the front end differs. The Everest gets a cabin instead of a truck bed and longer doors to make access easier. Ford’s use of turbodiesel engines is not as every day over here, but the 2.3L EcoBoost powers the 2023 Ranger. It can even be argued that it is better than the Ranger pickup truck, especially when you consider what engine options the other markets get.

The SUV will also have two transmission types: six-speed and 10-speed automatic. Some markets will get two four-wheel drive options, while others might see a rear-wheel drive version. The Everest has everything the American market could want in an SUV, but it won’t be available here.

How much is Ford Everest in the USA?

You cannot buy the Ford Everest in the USA, but the 2022 Everest started at around $29,716 in Australia. That was for the Ambiente 4×2 2.0L Bi-Turbo diesel 10AT trim. Pricing increased to $42,095 for the Trend 4×4 2.0L Bi-Turbo diesel 10AT.

Fast forward to the 2024 Everest, and the Ambiente trim with the 2.0L Bi-Turbo Diesel 10AT RWD starts at $38,223. The 2024 Everest Trend begins at $43,252 with a similar 2.0L Bi-Turbo Diesel 10AT RWD setup.

The 2024 Ford Ranger XL starts at $32,565 if you want the Ford Everest truck. There is also the XLT ($35,505), Lariat ($43,525), and a Raptor ($43,525) eventually. Unfortunately, production for the new Ranger is off to a bumpy start. Ford, do the right thing and send us the Everest. It only makes sense to give the US another SUV option.
