If there is one thing to rely on these days, Toyota truck dependability might be the only thing left. After last week’s 2024 Toyota Tacoma reveal, fans were excited to learn a manual transmission would be offered. Which 2024 Toyota Tacoma trim levels get the manual transmission option?

Will the 2024 Toyota Tacoma have a manual transmission?

According to the official press release from Toyota, three trim levels of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma will get a manual transmission option. Some highlights of Toyota’s newly released truck include the new standard i-FORCE turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder engine. This will get 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque from the base engine. There is also an available i-FORCE MAX turbocharged hybrid engine that gets 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.

There are eight different trim levels to choose from for the 2024 Toyota Tacoma. MotorTrend says those are the SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter. Of those, three get the manual transmission option. These are the SR, TRD Sport, and TRD Off-Road with the double cab only.

Toyota’s new six-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT2) comes with automatic rev-matching and gets 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.

The manual 2024 Toyota Tacoma trims are SR, TRD Sport, and TRD Off-Road

Even though the 2024 Toyota Tacoma SR is the base trim level, it still comes pretty decked out. The fourth-generation Tacoma uses a high-strength, steel-ladder frame designed in Newport Beach, California, and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Those who opt for the manual transmission Tacoma will get a standard clutch start cancel. This allows the truck to start up while already in gear, which is helpful for those challenging off-road situations.

The Tacoma TRD Sport gets 18-inch TRD wheels, black exterior badging, and a manual transmission option. It also has Bilstein remote reservoir monotube shocks to increase its capability. Finally, the capable TRD Off-Road trim is also available with a manual option.

All trim levels are available in two and four-wheel drive setups, which is nice. However, the manual can only be paired with the standard i-FORCE engine. Since the 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and Trailhunter get the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, these are only available with the automatic transmission.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma comes with a five or six-foot bed option and either a four-door Double Cab or the new two-door XtraCab. All of the options available with the manual transmission will be paired with the Double Cab option. The smaller XtraCab has two doors and only room for two passengers. The rear cabin area is set up for additional storage and is paired with the six-foot bed.

No matter what engine, all 2024 Toyota Tacoma trims get Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. Thanks to additional sensors and upgrades, the Tacoma is safer and more loaded with helpful systems than ever. Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control are all standard. Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, and Automatic High Beams are also included.

This is just the start of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma specs, so more information, like pricing, will come later. Toyota says the Tacoma will go on sale later this year, and the i-FORCE MAX-equipped trucks will hit the ground early next year. After landing on the list of trucks that have a good shot of lasting 250,000 miles or more, the new Tacoma will probably be one of the more popular truck releases of 2024.
