Electric SUVs are on their way to the mainstream, and there are a few electric automakers taking the stage by storm. Two of these are Volvo and Ford, with their respective 2022 C40 Recharge and 2022 Mustang Mach-e. Each of these SUVs offers a standout vehicle with top-notch safety and technology in a stylish package. Here’s what comes in each and how much they cost so you can choose the best one for you.

The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-e is cheaper than the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge

The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-e price starts at $46,695 for the base model, the Select. The Premium price is $49,200, and the California Route 1 is $51,875. The Ford Mustang Mach-e GT price starts at $61,095.

The base model Mustang Mach-E Select offers 18-inch wheels, keyless entry and start, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. You’ll also get simulated leather seats and dual-zone climate control.

The 2022 Volvo C40 MSRP price is $59,845. The C40 has a front and rear motor that can make 402 hp and 486 lb-ft of torque with all-wheel drive.

The Volvo C40 Recharge comes with a heated steering wheel, heated grille emblem, and a humidity sensor. There’s plenty of driver support, like a 12-inch driver display, a 9-inch center display, and adaptive power steering.

The Volvo C40 has a slightly longer range

The 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge has a front and rear motor that can make 402 hp and 486 lb-ft of torque with all-wheel drive. It’s powered by a 78-kWh battery pack and can be charged up to 80% in just 40 minutes using a DC fast-charging station. Using an ordinary household charger, it takes 8 hours to charge the C40.  It also has an EPA-estimated range of 226 miles.

The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-e is a fully electric SUV. It has a 120-volt or 240-volt charging cable and is DC fast-charging capable. This can support up to 150-kW charging stations. The rear-wheel Select can get up to 230 miles of range with an engine that makes 266 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, according to Edmunds. All-wheel drive sacrifices some range, getting 211 miles, but gains torque, at 428 lb-ft.

A fully loaded Mustang Mach-e is insanely powerful

If you want something sporty and sensible at the same time, the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-e is the way to go. Fully loaded will cost you $68,790. That’s for the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition with the extended range battery. This will get you up to 260 miles and a usable battery capacity of 91 kWh. The GT Performance Engine makes 480 hp and 634 lb-ft of torque. That’s a pretty impressive engine, and the Mach-E GT Performance goes from 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds.

You’ll also get an upgraded suspension and motor, Pirelli tires, and 20-inch aluminum wheels with glossy black pockets. The seats have a perforated design, and you’ll also get a panoramic sunroof.

The 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge fully loaded price is $61,585. There are lots of odds and ends in addition to major features. You can upgrade the color to something like Crystal White as well as add on packages like the Protection Package Premier. Mudflaps and load bars, a prepaid maintenance plan and factory scheduled maintenance finish off the fully loaded C40.

So which electric SUV is the better choice? overall, it’s probably the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-e due to its lower price, powerful engine, and plethora of features. Yet the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge offers a refinement that you won’t get in the Mach-e, and that just might be worth spending the extra money.
