Drivers Reveal Which Car Brands They Will Never Buy (Or Buy Again)
For one reason or another, there are just certain brands of cars that some people will just never buy. Curious about which car brands are most avoided by drivers, we asked MotorBiscuit readers to share their own personal blacklists.
After nearly 300 comments, it became clear which car brands MotorBiscuit readers will go out of their way to avoid. Two brands, however, clearly appeared more on drivers’ lists than any other.
Topping the list was anything related to Stellantis. Whether it was Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, or Ram, it didn’t matter. A lot of people have a provlem with their cars, trucks, SUVs.
Complaints came in fast and furious for Stellantis vehicles.
“Stellantis,” one driver wrote. “After being a loyal customer for 15 years, I bought a 2025 RAM 1500. Many times in the garage and customer service could care less!”
Coming in second was Hyundai/Kia. Apparently, many people have a problem with purchasing a vehicle from South Korea.
Not everyone agreed with all of the Hyundai hate, however
“For all of you saying Hyundai, I have a 2018 Kona 2.0 N/A bought brand new, now has 75k,” one reader wrote. “No issues. Normal maintenance, 5k oil changes, changed tranny fluid at 75k, changed spark plugs at 75k, brakes, and a set of tires. Car drives good. For a first-year car, when I bought it, it has been reliable.”
Rounding out the top five most-avoided car brands by MotorBiscuit readers were Ford, General Motors (specifically Chevrolet, Buick, and Cadillac), and Tesla.
Finishing in sixth was Nissan/Genesis, followed by Toyota/Lexus, BMW, Honda/Acura, and Vinfast.
Receiving dis-honorable mention were Mercedes-Benz, Mistubishi, Rivian, Volkswagen, Audi, Land Rover, Mazda, Subaru, Volvo/Polestar, Lucid, Porsche, Renault, and Yangwang.
What drivers are saying about the cars they hate
“Wouldn’t buy a Ford or Dodge, I’ve owned both and gave them multiple chances, and was disappointed in the performance and reliability,” one reader complained. “Will always be a GM guy after having a few make it over 300k with no issues.”
“Kia. Blew a Theta engine in a Rondo-manufacturing defect,” another driver warned. “Mazda. Mazda 5, Wore out rear tires once a year – design defect. In both cases, the manufacturer refused to help.”
“Any Korean or American mass-produced cars,” said another driver. “I am focusing on Japanese made or cars like a Corvette or other N/A car plant that only builds ONE model.”
“Ram, they wouldn’t cover a leaking 3rd brake light I installed myself,” someone else recounted. “A few months after I installed the light, they extended the warranty due known leaks. It cost me $40 for the part. As a result I won’t by a Ram or any other Stellantis product.”
“Nissan because of them knowing their transmissions are pretty much built to barely make it past 100k miles for like 16 years and never bothered to change to a better alternative,” wrote an unhappy Nissan owner.
