The upcoming 2024 Ford Mustang GT kicks off the seventh generation of the V8-powered pony car. However, not every sports car fan is enamored with the looks of the new GT, despite its power bump and interior overhaul. Of course, if used performance cars are more of your thing, plenty of preowned options will contend with the upcoming ‘Stang. Here are a few of the best GT alternatives, including the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51, 2020 Toyota GR Supra 3.0, and 2018 BMW M4 Coupe.

There’s no shortage of performance car options that will go toe-to-toe with the upcoming 2024 Ford Mustang GT. However, these used options have the potential to be fast, fulfilling alternatives.

  • 2018 Ford Mustang GT Premium
  • 2020 Toyota GR Supra 3.0
  • 2016 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack
  • 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51
  • 2018 BMW M4 Coupe

How much horsepower does a 2018 Mustang GT Premium 5.0 have?

The 2018 Ford Mustang GT Premium produces 460 horsepower from its naturally aspirated 5.0L Coyote V8 engine. Despite being the first model of the mid-cycle refresh for the S550 model, the 2018 GT makes an additional 10 ponies over the 2022 and 2023 models.

Better yet, the Premium trim adds posh interior features that don’t feel quite as dated when contrasted with the new interior in the S650 Mustang. For instance, the Premium trim wraps passengers in leather upholstery, adds dual-zone climate control, and ventilated seats. Moreover, a 2018 GT is much more affordable than a new model.

2018 Ford Mustang GT Premium$32,547 (Average used value)
2024 Ford Mustang GT Premium$47,015

How much HP does a Toyota GR Supra 3.0 have?

A 2020 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 produces 335 horsepower and a thrust-happy 365 lb-ft of torque. The ample power is courtesy of the nameplate’s 3.0L turbocharged B58 inline six-cylinder engine. As a result, the automatic-equipped Supra 3.0 will sprint to 60 mph in around 3.8 seconds.

According to Kelley Blue Book (KBB), a 2020 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 has an average value of around $47,242. Unfortunately, the GR Supra didn’t get a manual transmission option until 2023, so thrill-seekers who want to row their own gears will have to opt for a newer, pricier model.

Is a 2016 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack a solid alternative to a 2024 Ford Mustang GT?

The 2016 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack enjoys post-facelift styling and a 485-horsepower 6.4L Hemi V8. As a result, the upcoming 2024 Ford Mustang GT produces five fewer ponies than the aging Mopar brute.

Moreover, the R/T Scat Pack’s age allows some depreciation, meaning the 2016 model is a much more affordable affair than a new Mustang GT. Specifically, the 2016 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack with average mileage has a fair value of about $24,758. That’s quite a bit cheaper than the latest base-model Mustang GT, which starts at closer to $42,495.

A 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51 with the performance exhaust option adds just five horsepower to the base Stingray’s 455 ponies. As a result, a factory seventh-generation Corvette (C7) maxes at 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque from its naturally aspirated 6.2L V8.

Paired with a curb weight of 3,298 lbs, the LT1 V8 will launch a C7 Stingray Z51 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. Moreover, the seventh-gen ‘Vette has a comparable cargo capacity to the upcoming Mustang. Specifically, the C7 Coupe has around 15 cubic feet of storage, nearly two more than the Mustang. Further, KBB says the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z51 has a fair value of $45,469.

Is the 2018 BMW M4 Coupe a good alternative to the 2024 Ford Mustang GT?

While the BMW M4 is consistently pricier than a comparably-aged Mustang GT, a used M4 could be a viable alternative to a new ‘Stang. For instance, a 2018 BMW M4 has a fair value of around $46,013, just under the starting point for the upcoming 2024 Ford Mustang GT.

Moreover, with 425 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque from its musical 3.0L inline six-cylinder mill, the M4 is a serious performance car alternative to the upcoming Mustang.
