While camouflage is a necessity when automakers need to test their unreleased vehicles in the real world, that’s all it is. A necessity. And while it offers intriguing glimpses of a never-before-seen new model, it unto itself is not intriguing. However, as a gimmick, it seems that Audi is now offering camouflage for its RS e-tron GT as an option.

Why is Audi doing this limited e-tron GT RS?

Yes, sometimes car manufacturers go low when we expect them to go high. In this case, could the Audi marketing minions just be high? We’ll get to see soon if the idea of a big splat of graphics is what Audi customers really want.

To that end, Audi offers this camouflage package for its e-tron GT RS “Project_513/2.” The designation from the prototype’s internal reference. So those choosing this odd-looking and odd-designation option will find Project_513/2 on its infotainment screen, and windows, and bonked onto the seats.

How much is the Audi e-tron GT RS Project_513/2?

Audi is also giving it unique black wheels, to go along with the black paint and gray scribble graphics. Also, additional features include ceramic brakes, rear-wheel steering, and carbon details inside. And the leather seats are ventilated and offer massaging as well. Oh, and the powertrain goes up to 637 hp from its standard 522 hp. But keep in mind that an increase in power decreases its range, which the EPA estimates at 232 miles.

While all this seems like an excuse for a special edition to charge higher premium prices, we won’t go that far. However, the $179,900 price (that’s $180,000 to everyone else) does suggest this might be true. And keep in mind that the $180,000 tab does not include paint, destination charges, taxes, and title.

Will Audi dealers mark these up?

The RS version of the e-tron GT is a $40,000 premium over the EV’s $106,395 base price. So the camo package is another $40,000 over that. As Jalopnik notes, Audi warns all potential buyers that it doesn’t set actual prices.

It is the dealers that determine selling prices. So now you know that your price expectation may be less than your Audi dealer’s reality, which is based on the market. But all of that just adds to the joy of Audi ownership as higher prices give owners bragging rights they paid well north of $200,000 for their special camo e-tron.

Audi’s e-tron GT was first introduced in 2021, selling about 1,200 that year. Last year, that number increased to 2,300, not quite doubling the previous year’s number. Project_513/2 will be limited to only 75 cars. The good news is that if buyers are turned off by the gray graphics, the dealer can always remove them.
