The latest Chevrolet Corvette Z06 from the C8 generation ventures deep into supercar territory. So much so that it holds its own against the world-class likes of the Ferrari 458 Italia. So, what does a Bowling Green brute like the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 do that the older prancing horse doesn’t?

How does the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 do better than the Ferrari 458?

Comparing a Corvette to a Ferrari is a bit like comparing apples to sacred and beloved oranges. Still, the Z06 outshines the 458 in a few facets: it’s cheaper, faster, and has more cargo volume for daily driving purposes.

Of course, it’s no secret that Chevrolet’s engineers developed the latest Corvette Z06 by dissecting a 458. The team acquired one of the striking stallions to develop the revolutionary 670-horsepower 5.5L flat-plane crank V8 in the track-going ‘Vette. As a result, the Z06 does more than just sound like an Italian tenor; it derived much of its ferocious power and rev range from the 458’s inspired mill.

How much is a Ferrari 458?

The 2015 Ferrari 458 Italia, the nameplate’s last model year, started at about $243,090 when it was new. Earlier iterations, like the 2010 variant, started at closer to $227,325. However, the Ferrari models have depreciated considerably; Kelley Blue Book (KBB) says a 2010 458 has a typical listing price of about $158,925.

Still, even with depreciation at as much as 30%, the 458 Italia is a much pricier affair than the high-revving 2023 C8 Corvette Z06.

According to Car and Driver, adding the retractable hardtop convertible will tack on an extra $7,000 to $7,500. Moreover, the razor-sharp Z07 package could add $8,995 to the base price.

Is a Z06 faster than a Ferrari?

Despite how fast the Ferrari 458 was at its inception, the current C8 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is even faster. In testing, the Z06 managed a sprint to 60 mph and a quarter-mile drag in 2.6 seconds and 10.5 seconds, respectively.

A 2015 458 Italia, on the other hand, requires an additional 0.4 seconds to perform the same 60 mph dash. Moreover, Car and Driver’s skidpad testing revealed a disparity of 0.15 g between the two supercars, with the Corvette taking the win.

The Z06 launches, grips, and brakes harder than the now-discontinued 458. Of course, at the end of the track, the 458 driver will still be staring down at the familiar badge of one of the most tenured marques in the kingdom of supercars. I suppose an embarrassed Ferrari owner could take solace in that.

Does the Corvette Z06 have a trunk?

The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has a trunk and a frunk. Moreover, the combined 13 cubic feet of storage capacity is cavernous compared to the Ferrari; a 458 boasts just 8.0 cubic feet of storage space.
