Relative to other midsize pickup trucks, the Toyota Tacoma has a relatively outdated design. It hasn’t received a full redesign since 2016, and other trucks are catching up to the Tacoma. However, this will all change next year, for Toyota has big plans for the 2023 Tacoma that you’ll want to see.

What’s new for the 2023 Toyota Tacoma?

The Tacoma’s larger sibling, the Tundra, received a complete overhaul for the 2022 model year. That redesign reinvigorated the Tundra and was met with mostly positive reviews. Toyota looks to continue the overhaul of its truck lineup with the 2023 Tacoma.

Much of the excitement about the 2022 Tundra is for its new design, with a bold front and aggressive styling. The 2023 Tacoma is rumored to have some of the new design cues of the 2022 Tundra, according to Car and Driver. This includes a similar grille, as well as similar headlights and taillights.

The 2023 Tacoma will likely offer the same crew cab and extended cab options as the 2022 Tacoma, as well as different bed lengths and body styles. Also, the 2023 Tacoma will feature the new TNGA-F body-on-frame platform. Toyota will also use the TNGA-F platform for upcoming models of the 4Runner and Sequoia SUVs.

2023 Toyota Tacoma: Turbocharged engine and possibly a hybrid version

On the performance front, rumors indicate that the 2023 Tacoma will offer a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine. One possibility is that it could be a variation of the turbocharged 2.4-liter engine in the Lexus NX350, which doles out 275 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. The 2023 Tacoma could also follow the path of the 2022 Tundra and offer a powerful and efficient hybrid engine. Looking even further into the future, Toyota stated that every model in its lineup, including the Tacoma, will offer an electric version by 2025.

Another upgrade for the 2023 Tacoma will be for its suspension. Like the 2022 Tundra, the 2023 Tacoma will replace the rear leaf springs with rear coil springs. The new suspension will improve the Tacoma’s driving dynamics and provide a more comfortable ride.

In addition to the new design and performance upgrades, the 2023 Tacoma will have an upgraded cabin with new technologies. This includes higher quality materials, a larger touchscreen for the infotainment system, an available digital gauge cluster, and standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

2023 Toyota Tacoma release date and price

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma will likely make its debut sometime in 2022, with a release date toward the end of the year. However, it’s possible that Toyota won’t implement the new design and upgrades for the Tacoma until the 2024 model year.

As far as the cost of the 2023 Tacoma, it’s all speculative right now. The starting price of the 2022 Tacoma is $26,500 for the Access Cab versions and $27,330 for the Double Cab versions. However, with the new design and upgrades, the cost of the 2023 Tacoma will likely be higher than this.

Toyota hasn’t officially confirmed any information about the 2023 Tacoma, but many of these changes are likely. It’s been many years since the Tacoma received a thorough overhaul, so a redesign is overdue. We’ll know much more information once Toyota debuts the redesigned Tacoma.
