The great thing about used cars is that there are millions of options. That’s also the problem. All pre-owned vehicles are not created equal, and the chances of picking a lemon are higher than used car salesmen would like you to think.

Thankfully some automakers create high-quality vehicles that will continue to hold its value even as it ages, as well as being a great, reliable car. If you’re looking for suggestions for the best used vehicles, iSeeCars has compiled a list for 2020.

Best used pickup truck

The Toyota Tacoma won the award for the best used pickup truck, which probably isn’t a very big surprise to anyone who has owned one before.

Like iSeeCars, U.S. News tends to rank the Tacoma very high, and stated, “Used Tacomas typically do very well in our rankings compared with the same model years of other small trucks. Generally, used Tacomas’ high scores are due to strong safety ratings and favorable reviews from critics.”

The 2009 model has the overall highest scores, and the 2014 model won the Best Compact Pickup Truck for the Money Award.

There are a lot of amazing sports cars out there, and the choice was rather hard. That didn’t stop iSeeCars from giving the award to the Ford Mustang. Disappointed fans of the Dodge Charger will have to take comfort in the fact that it was the runner up.

So why did the Ford Mustang beat out competitors such as the Dodge Challenger and the Chevy Corvette?

AutoTrader has a few ideas. Perhaps it has to do with the Mustang’s iconic look, 50-year history, or its multiple appearances on the big screen. The affordable price tag also makes it more readily available than models like the Porsche 911. Either way, it’s hard to argue with the fact that Mustang in an incredible car that is sure to turn heads no matter how old it is.

Best used SUV

If you’re looking for a used SUV, the Toyota 4Runner is a great choice. AutoTrader reports that used 4Runners range from $5,000 to $50,000. This means that no matter what your budget range is, you can still buy a used 4Runner.

So what’s so great about the 4Runner?

According to U.S. News, “This is a real SUV and not some wimpy crossover, so it can ride rough, on the road or off.” So whether you’re looking for a work vehicle or need something for your growing family, the 4Runner is sure to meet all your needs.

Best used EV

It may seem a little predictable that the best used EV award belongs to the Tesla Model S, but it’s hard to argue with that fact that Elon Musk knows how to make a great electric vehicle.

Business Insider reports that the Model S single-handedly saved Tesla from bankruptcy. Since then, it has gotten better and better. It now comes with AWD, can hit 60 mph faster than any other EV, and an improved battery pack. If you’re tired of paying high gas prices, a used Model S is definitely something you need to check out.

Best used passenger car

Not everyone wants a SUV or truck. Gas mileage tends to be poorer with these vehicles, and some drivers may not like sitting up that high. If this is the case, consider the Honda Civic, which won the best used passenger car award.

MotorTrend reports the Civic has been around for over 40 years and has a solid record. It also comes with a lot of options that other passenger cars don’t. The Civic comes in sedan, coupe, wagon, and hatchback models, so no matter what style of car you’re looking for, you’re sure to find it.
