This week, a Reddit thread is lit up with hundreds of comments on which 200 mph cars are the most boring. Unsurprisingly, the list features some sleeper cars – vehicles that onlookers wouldn’t assume are very powerful. I’ve pulled the cars with the most votes. Let’s dive in.

Tesla Model S Plaid

In our household, we joke about how most Tesla sedans look like the results if you ask someone to “draw an outline of a car.” While some love its clean, simple lines, others find it bland. You might be surprised to discover that the Model S Plaid was the fastest-accelerating production vehicle on the market until the Rimac Nevera took the crown in March 2024 (the Nevera took 1.74 seconds to get to 60). The Model S Plaid has 1,020 hp and can get from 0 to 60 mph in 1.99 seconds (minus rollout).

Bentley Continental Flying Spur Speed

This sleeper was released in 2008 and was influenced by the brand’s legacy 1920s-era Speeds. Its modest appearance featured an upgraded 600 ponies with a twin-turbo 12-cylinder that could get you from 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds. Voters flagged the first-gen model above others. Yet more commenters felt that the Continental, in general, was worth adding to the most boring 200 mph cars. I’ll admit that the Continental isn’t as boring as other sleepers due to its recognizable front styling. However, its profile view and orthopedic shoe color (think metallic sand) don’t help its case.

McLaren 12C

Available from 2011 to 2014, the McLaren 12C is the total wild card on this list. This was McLaren’s first production successor to the F1. One Redditer drove the car as part of a supercar experience and complained of the McLaren being “too muted, too comfortable, too quiet.” While the commenter didn’t specify which model he drove, others guessed that it was the 12C. Jeremy Clarkson reviewed the model for Top Gear and felt it was overall sound, but a bit boring and perhaps lacking character. Certainly, in the looks department, it’s a far cry from others on the list. The 12C was available as a hardtop convertible or coupe and, of course, had butterfly doors. It had a 4.0L twin-turbo V8, made 616 bhp, and got you from 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds.

VW Phaeton W12

The VW Phaeton W12 was an ultra-luxury sedan built from 2004 to 2011. It used the Bentley Continental platform and Audi A8 components. While aesthetically humble, this Volkswagen touted more than 420 hp via its 6.0L W12 – two slender V6 engines conjoined with a single crankcase. Stock, it hit 60 mph in about 5.5 seconds. Reddit’s top vote for the most boring 200 MPH car was an unrestricted Phaeton W12.

Despite the list’s high votes for the most boring 200 mph cars, we can only get so far with critiquing each. Many Redditers feel similarly: Nothing is truly “boring” at 200 mph.
