For those who want an SUV that balances practicality, comfort, and style, these options from Toyota, Hyundai, and Kia check all the boxes. The best new hybrid SUVs offer a combination of fuel efficiency, environmental friendliness, and spaciousness that appeals to families. Hybrid sport utility vehicles have come a long way in the last few years, and these models prioritize fuel economy and comfort.

Kia has one of the best new hybrid SUVs in the Sorento

When U.S. News listed some of the best new hybrid SUVs, the 2023 Kia Sorento Hybrid checked all the boxes. Starting at $36,590, the Sorento Hybrid is an excellent entry-level hybrid option. The Kia Sorento is easy to drive and does have a third row, but it isn’t the most spacious seating area.

Kia included many standard driver-assistance features, such as Forward collision warning, Forward automatic emergency braking, and Blind-spot monitoring. Rear cross-traffic alert and Lane-departure warning are also included. Fuel economy works out to 39 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive versions get 36 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2023 Kia Sorento a four-star safety rating. It also earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick when equipped with LED projector headlights. These come on the Hybrid SX Prestige trim and offer the best visibility.

The Toyota Highlander is one of the best new hybrid SUVs

For new hybrid SUVs that the family won’t hate, the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is one of the most reliable options. It has taken home many awards in its time for being an all-around good SUV. The family will love it because it looks and feels like a regular vehicle but has to hit the gas station less frequently.

Some standard equipment on the Highlander includes Blind-spot monitoring, Forward collision warning, and Lane-departure warning. Toyota also added Adaptive cruise control and Automatic high-beam headlights. With front-wheel drive, the Highlander gets 36 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. All-wheel drive drops that by one mpg, for the most part.

Thanks to those systems, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2023 Highlander a five-star overall safety rating. It also earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick Plus award.

People like the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid

The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid SUV has a lot going for it. All five seats are comfortable and spacious, plus there is plenty of cargo space in the back. Drivers like the Hyundai hybrid for fuel economy too, which is 36/31 city/highway with the Blue trim. Other trim levels get 33/30 mpg city/highway.

Hyundai also offers the Santa Fe Hybrid in a plug-in model, which returns 76 MPG equivalent in combined city/highway driving in electric mode. Combined gas mode is around 33 mpg. Like the other hybrid SUVs, Hyundai included many standard safety systems like Forward collision warning and Adaptive cruise control.

The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe earned a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It also earned the Top Safety Pick Plus award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
