The Blue Oval produces four Mustang Mach-E trims. Its final two configurations offer impressive specs that justify their starting prices in the eyes of some consumers.

Ford Mustang Mach-E trims

  • Ford Mustang Mach-E Select (starting at $42,995 MSRP)
  • Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium (starting at $46,995 MSRP)
  • Ford Mustang Mach-E California Route 1 (starting at $56,995 MSRP)
  • Ford Mustang Mach-E GT (starting at $59,995 MSRP)

Right off the bat, most average consumers aren’t willing to pay over $50K for a new small SUV, so that disqualifies the Mach-E’s upper trim levels. The California Route 1 has spectacular driving range (312 EPA-estimated miles), but it’s still too pricey for consumers looking for their first EV.

Ford’s Mustang Mach-E GT is the most attractive option from a performance standpoint because of its power output and acceleration. It makes 480 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. Furthermore, the Mach-E GT goes from 0-60 miles per hour in just 3.8 seconds, making it one of the quickest EVs on the market.

The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is the most exciting configuration, but its price makes it out of reach to many drivers. Additionally, while 0-60 in 3.8 seconds sounds fun, it isn’t a necessity for the average consumer. That leaves two configurations: the Mach-E Select and Mach-E Premium. Which is the better buy?

Ford Mustang Mach-E Select vs. Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium

Ford Mustang Mach-E Model Starting MSRP Driving Range Horsepower/Torque
Ford Mustang Mach-E Select $42,995250 Miles (EPA estimated) 266 Horsepower/317 LB-FT of Torque (RWD)
Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium $46,995250 Miles (EPA estimated)266 Horsepower/317 LB-FT of Torque (RWD)

Ford’s Mustang Mach-E Premium configuration isn’t quicker or more powerful than the base model Select. It doesn’t have superior driving range either. Overall, the main difference between the two trim levels is standard features.

Since the Select already comes with great standard features like a wireless charging pad, a soft vinyl-wrapped steering wheel, and a 360-degree camera, it’s the best 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E trim for the money. Additionally, the base model Select has Ford’s One Pedal Drive feature, a universal garage door opener, and a Phone as Key feature.

If you’re looking for the best value as a first-time EV buyer, the Mach-E Select is the way to go because it’s affordable and well-balanced. Furthermore, it still embodies the traits of a Mustang without breaking the bank.

Ford’s small electric SUV has plenty to prove

When the Mustang Mach-E first arrived, it was a hit after consumers got over their initial skepticism. Unfortunately, the nameplate has been hit with wave after wave of reliability issues, including a battery problem that rendered some models completely immobile.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E undeniably has potential, but it has to earn the trust of drivers to truly flourish. Will the Blue Oval’s small electric SUV have a huge sales year, or is it falling short due to fears of unreliability?
