Atlis XT Is a Dark Horse Contender for the Best Electric Truck

In the battle to be the best electric pickup truck, there are many strong contenders, such as the Rivian R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning. While these trucks garner a great deal of publicity, EV startup Atlis will offer an enticing model with the Atlis XT.

Electric pickup trucks will likely be a huge source of revenue for automakers. Many EV trucks vie for the top spot, such as the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, Chevy Silverado EV, and Tesla Cybertruck. However, relatively unknown EV startup Atlis could offer the best electric pickup of all with the Atlis XT.

Atlis XT utility: High towing and payload capacities

One of the biggest reasons why the Atlis XT could be the best electric pickup truck is its high towing capacity. A significant consideration for pickup truck buyers is towing capabilities. On this front, the Atlis XT is a standout truck. Atlis claims that the XT will have a maximum towing capacity of 35,000 pounds. The XT also more than holds its own for payload, with a maximum payload capacity of 5,000 pounds.

For enhanced utility, the XT offers a frunk (storage area under the hood) with an 18.5 cu-ft cargo capacity and a spray-on liner for both the frunk and bed. Also, for plugging in tools and accessories, the XT has 120- and 240-volt outlets. Atlis will offer 6.5- or 8.0-foot versions for the pickup bed of the XT.

High driving range and fast charging capabilities of the Atlis XT

The Atlis XT could also be the best electric pickup truck due to its high driving range and fast charging capabilities. A common concern for EVs is range anxiety — or the fear of running out of battery power before you can drive back home or reach a charging station. However, with a driving range as high as 500 miles, this concern is mostly alleviated by the XT.

What’s even more impressive for the XT is its fast charging capabilities. Atlis claims that you’ll be able to reach a full charge with the XT in only 15 minutes. This charging time is considerably faster than what any EV currently offers. It’s also not much more time than it takes to fill up the fuel tank in a gas-powered vehicle.

The Atlis XT offers a unique subscription program

The third reason why the Atlis XT could be the best electric pickup truck is its unique subscription program. It provides an intriguing alternative to traditional car ownership and leasing.

For a monthly fee starting at $700, the Atlis XT subscription program includes:

  • A new Atlis XT truck every three, five, or seven years
  • Unlimited free charging at Atlis fast-charging stations
  • Routine maintenance and inspections
  • Truck registration
  • Insurance coverage

What is the release date and cost of the Atlis XT?

Atlis stated that it will start production of the Atlis XT starting in late 2022. This likely means that the release date of the XT will be sometime in early 2023. As far as the cost, Atlis targets a price of $45,000 for the base model and $85,000 for the range-topping model.

Will the Atlis XT be the best electric pickup truck? Only time will tell, but if the specs and capabilities hold true, the XT has a fighting chance. However, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. First, while the specs and capabilities are impressive, the XT is still a prototype model — and untested and unverified by outside sources. Also, the XT is a work truck, so it won’t appeal to a broad range of pickup truck buyers. It’s like an electric version of a Ford F-250/F-350 or an electric Ram 2500/3500.
