One of the most significant upsides of a midsize sedan is the ability to carry cargo without needing an SUV. Many in the segment offer plentiful space for groceries, shopping bags, golf clubs, and luggage. However, some prioritize other characteristics higher than trunk space, leaving some looking for tiedown straps.

Common midsize sedans like the Toyota Camry, Kia K5, and Honda Accord all offer ample room for storage. Yet, some performance-centered sedans often forget that the point of a car is usefulness. The following are the seven midsize sedans that have the smallest trunk space in the segment.

#7: Audi A6 – 13.7 cubic feet

Audi’s A6 sports an elegant interior, refined ride quality, and state-of-the-art technology. While it isn’t the sportiest, it’s also not the most practical sedan. Trips to the grocery store and weekends away from home will likely be the extent of the A6’s maximum trunk space.

#6: Audi S6 – 13.7 cubic feet

The Audi S6 has more power, performance, tech, and excitement than its gentle-mannered Audi A6 counterpart. Despite that, it features the same small trunk.

#5: Acura TLX – 13.5 cubic feet

The upscale Japanese brand boasts an attractive and comfortable sports sedan. A premium ride quality and affordable price are excellent in the Acura, but the small trunk hurts its effectiveness.

#4: Mercedes-Benz E-Class – 13.1 cubic feet

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-is a leader in exquisite exterior styling, striking interiors, and technological excellence. The five-seater comes in 4 trim levels, all of which feature decadent materials. However, the E-Class’s poor cargo space makes it less practical than other German offerings.

#3: Cadillac CT5-V – 11.9 cubic feet

Although the Cadillac has immense performance capability, it’s a bit short on practicality. Nevertheless, the Blackwing variant supercharged V8 could distract drivers from everything they couldn’t carry in the trunk.

#2: Genesis G70 – 10.5 cubic feet

The Genesis G70 is a stylish and sporty alternative to the European sedans that dominate the segment. Although it may not have the brand reputation of its competitors, it has a few shortcomings. Unfortunately, one of them is being tied for the smallest trunk in the segment.

#1: Jaguar XF – 10.5 cubic feet

As the lone midsize sedan from British brand Jaguar, it has a wide range of consumers to cover. Its low starting price, luxurious interior, and smooth handling make it a prime selection. Yet, the XF probably won’t be good for hauling much more than a weekly trip to the grocery store.

Should trunk space be a high priority?

For those looking to purchase a midsize sedan, trunk space will likely be an important factor. There’s no sense in packing the family in the car without the room necessary for school sports gear or plastic bags full of groceries. Yet, if pragmatism is your bag, you probably won’t buy a V-Series Cadillac

Most of the vehicles above—apart from the A6—are sports sedans. Therefore, high horsepower and tire-shredding torque are their business. Regardless, given that a standard golf bag is between two and three cubic feet, any of the above should fine for the country club.
