$650,000 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Recalled for 1 Dangerous Issue
The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is a limited-edition supercar with over 750 hp coming from a naturally aspirated V12 engine. Get crazy with options, and you can easily end up paying around $650,000 for one of these Lamborghinis. However, a new recall indicates that this supercar has one fatal flaw.
According to CarBuzz, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a recall citing faults with the engine hood cover. In short, the hood can accidentally open and potentially fly off while driving. Given this car’s 219-mph top speed, this is a serious issue.
What is wrong with the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ?
If you’re wondering how a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ’s engine hood cover flies off, there’s an obvious explanation. According to CarScoops, the heat generated by the enormous V12 engine can actually deform some of the engine bay’s plastic components. The deformed hinges then directly affect screws that are integral to holding the cover in place.

As you might imagine, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ’s massive engine cover would create a major road hazard, potentially damaging other vehicles. As a result, Lamborghini is eager to fix this major issue.
The defect rate is estimated to be 100 percent
According to the NHTSA, this issue affects 221 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ examples. While that may seem like a relatively small number of affected cars, keep in mind that just 900 SVJ’s exist. CarScoops reports that the recall affects the 2018 to 2021 model years, specifically the cars built between July 4, 2018, and January 15, 2021. However, one of the most interesting aspects of this recall is that this issue has an estimated defect rate of 100 percent.
Given the severity of this issue, Lamborghini has already begun fixing cars at the factory, correcting the problem for cars that haven’t yet been delivered to customers. Like with any vehicle recall, the Italian carmaker plans to contact individual owners to fix the issue.
According to CarScoops, your Lamborghini Aventador SVJ will get new hood hinge screws. However, there is no mention of how the company plans to stop heat from affecting other major components in the future. Fortunately, one variant of the SVJ remains unaffected.
Don’t worry if you’ve got the roadster
If you’ve got a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster, there’s good news. The roadster variant is not affected by this issue. This is because the roadster features a different engine cover design. As a result, this variant does a better job of keeping engine temperatures at optimal levels.
Aside from the SVJ models, Lamborghini has built thousands of Aventador models. Thankfully, these also don’t have any major recalls or reported issues. As a result, the number of affected cars within the range remains fairly minimal. Additionally, it is worth pointing out that the NHTSA found no injuries or deaths related to this recall.
