6. Toyota is only releasing a limited number of 2022 Toyota 4Runner Anniversary Edition models

Toyota isn’t going to mass produce the 2023 Toyota 4Runner Anniversary Edition. That would sort of ruin the novelty of it, and Toyota recognizes that. That’s why it’s chosen a small number of SUVs to make – 4,040, in fact. Clearly, that number was chosen to stand out thanks to its relevance to the anniversary.

5. The special edition 4Runner will be available in 3 colors

The 2023 Toyota 4Runner Anniversary Edition will be available in three colors, according to Toyota. These include White, Midnight Black, and also Barcelona Red Metallic. While that may not sound like a lot, this version of the 4Runner will be unique in its design, meaning that the limited choice in colors will only add to the way it stands out. The Anniversary Edition with also have 17-inch bronze wheels, a body-colored TOYOTA grille, and a 40th Anniversary badge on the rear.

4. It will come with a retro “heritage graphics package”

In addition to the color choices, the the 2023 Toyota 4Runner Anniversary Edition will look different in other ways, too. It will have a “heritage graphics package” that Toyota made for this 4Runner. Toyota notes that the first 4Runner was built on a truck platform “which itself founded the heritage of Toyota’s illustrious success in off-road racing.” The 40th anniversary 4Runner will also have “some very cool, retro-inspired yellow/orange/red body graphics” to honor the first 4Runners.

4. It has an old-school engine

Okay, the 2023 Toyota 4Runner’s somewhat antiquated engine may not be a huge selling point, but perhaps shoppers will be able to overlook it. The 2023 Toyota 4Runner Anniversary Edition comes with a 4.0-liter V6 engine that makes 278 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque. This is matched to a five-speed automatic transmission. While this is fairly powerful, it’s not exactly fuel efficient. It gets just 16 mpg in the city and only 19 mpg on the highway. With gas prices being as high as they are right now, this may make you rethink whether you really want to spring for the new 4Runner, even the Anniversary Edition.

2. The 4Runner will be loaded with features

Every 2023 Toyota 4Runner comes with an 8.0-inch infotainment screen that’s compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has a Wi-Fi hot spot, though you have to subscribe to it. The 2022 Toyota 4Runner also has a navigation system and 15-speaker premium sound system, so it’s likely that the 2023 model will, too.

1. The Anniversary Edition 4Runner won’t be crazy expensive

The 2023 Toyota 4Runner Anniversary Edition price starts at $46,955. This puts it in the middle of the price ladder for new 2023 Toyota 4Runner models. The base model 4Runner, the SR5, starts at $39,640. At the other end of the 4Runner price list is the most expensive 4Runner TRD Pro. The TRD Pro price starts at $54,605.

There’s a lot that makes the 2023 Toyota 4Runner Anniversary Edition unique and also stand out from other 4Runners. Will it be enough to overlook some of the 4Runner’s shortcomings? Only time will tell.
