We have compiled a list of the five cheapest new midsize SUVs of 2024, with each highly-rated model fitting the bill for exceptional reliability, safety, and family-friendly features.

#1 2024 Kia Sorento

The 2024 Kia Sorento is considerably smaller than other vehicles in its class but still includes third-row seating for occasional use. While roomier than a compact SUV, the Sorento offers better affordability and fuel efficiency than its competitors. It is also easier to get around town, making parking a breeze.

The starting price for the 2024 model is expected to come in around $31,000. KBB reports the 2024 Sorento has “many practical benefits, like good fuel economy, tons of standard safety features, and the best warranty in its class.

#2 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander

The 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander has a starting MSRP of $28,395 and will appeal to families concerned about safety, winning this year’s IIHS Top Safety Pick award. With seating for seven passengers, the Outlander offers good fuel economy with an estimated EPA range of 27 mpg combined.

Mitsubishi includes an integrated care program in the price of the vehicle featuring a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty along with five-year roadside assistance and a two-year limited maintenance plan.

Smooth handling, a refined, luxurious cabin, third-row seating, and a dynamic design make the Outlander a top choice among families.

#3 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe is receiving a total overhaul, with a redesign that offers a more robust, adventure-ready package. The family-friendly midsize SUV will be available in early 2024 in both a hybrid and gas-powered variant.

Bigger and bolder than ever, the fifth-generation model receives increased interior space and third-row seating with 10-degree reclining capabilities, undoubtedly designed to entice drivers with large families.

Driver-assistance technologies include semi-autonomous drive modes, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automated emergency braking, and more. Advanced safety features include a new radar-based reminder system to ensure drivers check the back seat before leaving the vehicle.

A 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission provides plenty of power for driving around town, generating 277 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque.

Hyundai has not yet revealed pricing, but we expect the 2024 model to cost in the mid to upper-30s price range.

#4 2024 Nissan Pathfinder

The 2024 Nissan Pathfinder can accommodate up to eight passengers, offering 4×4 capability and robust performance that sets it apart from the competition.

With a suggested MSRP of $35,810, the Nissan Pathfinder has a towing capacity of up to 6,000 pounds, seven drive and terrain modes for exceptional off-road performance, and a versatile interior with plenty of cargo space.

Technology features include wireless smartphone compatibility, a 12.3″ widescreen digital dashboard with a customizable display, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a Bose premium audio system.

#5 2024 Subaru Outback

The 2024 Subaru Outback is a reliable two-row midsize SUV with a reputation for exceptional safety features, receiving the 2023 Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS. The family-friendly vehicle offers a roomy interior and has a starting price of $28,895 for the entry-level model.

According to Kelley Blue Book, the Outback is “the reigning champion for our Best Resale Value award in its class,” making it a good investment for budget-conscious families.
