When four doors are overkill, sports and muscle car fans reach for the keys to a coupe. However, potential owners don’t have to stretch to Jaguar or BMW price tags to enjoy a two-door hardtop sports car. Instead, fans can check out some of the cheapest coupes on the market, like the Chevrolet Camaro and Toyota GR86.

Are coupes less expensive?

Despite having fewer doors than sedans, coupes aren’t generally less expensive. Instead, sporty coupes are sometimes pricier. Still, these cars are some of TrueCar’s picks for cheap coupes in 2023:

  • Chevrolet Camaro- $27,795
  • Ford Mustang- $29,165
  • Toyota GR86- $29,495
  • Subaru BRZ- $29,615
  • Dodge Challenger- $32,140

Moreover, a couple of these two-door sports car bargains are available as convertibles. Specifically, the 2023 Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang offer drop-top variants. Determined enthusiasts can also get their hands on a convertible Dodge Challenger, but it’s a custom affair from Dodge’s dealer network and adds a staggering $25,999 to the model’s starting price.

What is the cheapest Camaro?

The cheapest 2023 Chevrolet Camaro in the model’s lineup is the 1LS trim, which starts at around $27,795. Armed with a 275-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the 1LS might not be as thrust-happy as the 310-horsepower Ford Mustang EcoBoost, but it earns the top spot on the coupe list.

Still, if the cheapest Camaro in the lineup isn’t enough, the 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT trims offer an option 3.6L V6 with 335 horsepower. Moreover, the Camaro’s 455-horsepower 6.2L V8-powered trims might be pricier, but with a 0 to 60 mph time of under four seconds, it’s a performance bargain.

Is the Mustang or Camaro faster?

The Ford Mustang is the original pony car and the principal rival of the Chevrolet Camaro. Depending on the trim, the Mustang is faster than the Camaro. For instance, the Mustang EcoBoost is quicker and more powerful than the Camaro 1LS.

However, Chevrolet states that the V8-equipped Camaro with a 10-speed automatic transmission can hit 60 mph in as little as 3.5 seconds, which would make it quicker than a comparable Ford Mustang GT. Still, the Ford Mustang’s eager performance, handsome styling, and affordable starting price snag it the second spot on TrueCar’s list.

Is the Toyota GR86 worth buying?

The Toyota GR86 takes the sports coupe formula back to basics with some of the best driver’s car credentials in the affordable sports car market. With a starting price of just under $30,000, fans will be hard-pressed to find a better option for fun drives.

Does Subaru make a coupe?

Subaru’s BRZ is a coupe that shares DNA with the Toyota GR86. In fact, the two are essentially identical twins in different t-shirts. Both cars pack a 228-horsepower 2.4L H4, standard six-speed manual transmission, and rear-wheel drive. Aside from badging, small details, and suspension differences, it’s easy to mix them up.

However, that’s not necessarily a bad thing; the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 carry on the spirit of the affordable sports car. The two sports cars are charmingly analog in a digital market.

Is a Dodge Challenger a coupe or sedan?

The Dodge Challenger is a coupe, but potential owners can commission a convertible from the dealer. Moreover, the Challenger coupe is a large, handsome option with a library of engines, available AWD in lower trims, and an attractive starting price for the entry-level SXT.

Unfortunately, coupes are not as popular as other vehicles due to the lack of practicality. Coupes tend to have less cargo volume and just two doors instead of a sedan’s four. Moreover, even if the car has back seats, they’re often cramped and difficult to access compared to a sedan.
