Not again! There is another massive Toyota recall to report. This time the recall involves hundreds of thousands of Toyota Tacoma trucks. If you own a Tacoma pickup truck then you may need to take it in for service.

Toyota Tacoma recall alert due to rear axle problems

Nearly 381,000 Toyota Tacoma pickup trucks are facing a recall due to issues with the rear axle. This recall includes 2022 and 2023 model-year Tacoma trucks.

Toyota shared that leftover welding debris from the rear axle may cause certain retaining nuts to loosen over time and eventually fall off. The bolts may have had extra metal, preventing them from being fully tightened.

As the axle shaft sprates it can impact the truck’s stability and braking abilities, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries. Although, Toyota hasn’t shared if it’s aware of any accidents or damages related to this recall.

As the bolts loosen drivers may experience increased truck vibrations and grinding noises. Plus, oil may start leaking from the rear differential.

I would normally advise you to visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) site and enter your 17-digit V.I.N. to see if your truck is at risk.

However, Toyota just announced this recall this morning, so the NHTSA is still putting documents together. More information could be available in a day or so.

Toyota will begin notifying owners at risk via mail in April, but you can check the NHSTA site by the end of the week.

If your Tacoma is involved with this recall then you will need to visit a local dealership for free repairs. You don’t have to return to the same location where you purchased your truck. Any Toyota dealership is fine.

The technicians will inspect the rear axle for damage. They will retighten bolts, replace missing bolts, and fix broken components as necessary.

It’s always a good idea to schedule a service appointment via phone or online in advance to avoid long waiting times.
