The 2023 Toyota Supra is one of the most affordable and fun-to-drive sports cars in the market. We recently tested the Supra 3.0 with the manual transmission and enjoyed every second of the experience. It was so enjoyable that we can attest that it’s worth every penny of its $56,000 price tag. However, that sum of money may be too hefty for some car enthusiasts. It’s possible to find a cheap used sports car that still offers drivers some excitement. But you do have to get a little creative.

In that case, we have come up with a short list of the three used alternatives to the Toyota Supra that cost less than $30,000. Keep in mind that a couple of the entries are pretty old but still worth a look.

2021 Ford Mustang EcoBoost Coupe

Although it may be hard to trade the Toyota Supra’s turbocharged 3.0-liter engine for a four-cylinder Ford Mustang, we think the pony car is worth a look. Sure, it may only have a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, but it’s a potent one. The engine puts out 310 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque, which is close to the power output of the Supra 3.0.

Furthermore, the Ford Mustang’s independent rear suspension allows it to handle better on the streets and the track while providing a comfortable ride. There’s plenty of trunk space to boot, and the rear seats can hold two average-sized adults. Did we mention that it’s rear-wheel drive, too? Yup, just like the Supra.

2008 BMW M3

The 2008 BMW M3 might sound old (it is), but it’s still a good contender to the Supra. Not only is this version of the M3 rear-wheel drive, but it packs a large 4.0-liter V8 engine under its hood that puts out 414 hp at a stratospheric 8,300 rpm. Couple that power with the 295 lb-ft of torque, and it’s easy to see why the editors at Car and Driver were able to pull 0-60 mph times of 4.3 seconds.

That’s almost as quick as the Toyota Supra 3.0 on paper, but the M3 isn’t just about performance. The M3 has plenty of space for four adults and their stuff. However, keep in mind that this version of the M3 will return around 17 miles per gallon because that V8 is thirsty. But again, that’s not what the M3 is about.

2008 Pontiac G8

The old Pontiac G8 is a dinosaur compared to the new Toyota Supra, but its old bones sure can move. A V6 engine was available, but the real star was the available V8. The large 6.0-liter, eight-cylinder engine put out 361 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque, which is enough power to get the car up to 60 mph in only 5.3 seconds from a stop.

The best part is that the G8 is a large sedan, which means that it can fit up to five passengers and plenty of cargo with no issues. We have to mention that although the Pontiac G8 is old, it’s still holding its value well, as many used examples are selling for around $27,000.

If you can’t afford a 2023 Toyota Supra, one of these cheap used sports car options may work

The 2023 Toyota Supra is affordable compared to many exotics and sports cars like the Porsche 718 Cayman. However, if you can’t afford one, don’t worry, one of these three used alternatives can get your heart racing just like the Supra, but at a much cheaper price point.
