Sometimes you just need a big SUV to move all your people and things. These are some of Edmunds’ best large SUVs of 2022 that have plenty of safety features and technology to keep the whole family happy. Chevrolet, GMC, and Ford not only offer these full-size sport utility vehicles in a variety of trim levels but also with multiple engine choices and lengths.

The Chevy Suburban is one of the best large SUVs

The best large SUVs include the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban

When Edmunds ranked the best large SUVs, the 2022 Chevy Suburban shared first place. Chevy offers the Suburban with a few different engine choices, including a diesel option. The sheer size of the Suburban means room for people and cargo, not to mention pretty high towing ratings.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban four stars overall. Some notable safety features include forward collision alert, lane keep assist and safety alert seat.

MSRP range: $51,100 – $75,700

If that doesn’t work, the GMC Yukon tied for first place among the best large SUVs

Edmunds reports that the 2022 GMC Yukon is new and improved for this year, even tying the Suburban for the number one spot. It offers a comfortable ride and a roomy interior and has the towing capacity to match. Owners even report that the Yukon is pretty easy to drive, thanks to its standard safety features.

The 2022 GMC Yukon has similar safety features and scores to the Suburban. Automatic emergency braking is included, and the available 360-degree camera system is helpful for parking. While the visibility out the front is acceptable, it can be challenging to see out of the back at times.

MSRP range: $51,600 – $72,500

Ford’s Expedition has a lot of opportunities for customization

Following the other two, the 2022 Ford Expedition is one of the best large SUVs. Edmunds calls the interior of the Expedition “cavernous” and says it has an exceptional amount of room for people and cargo. The V6 engine is big enough to haul everything around, too. For 2022, the Expedition has the same large vertical touchscreen made popular by the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

While it didn’t participate in all of the crash tests, the 2022 Ford Expedition received many five-star crash test ratings. These crashworthiness tests include the side crash, side barrier, and more.

MSRP range: $52,405 – $84,610

2022 Toyota Sequoia

Contrary to popular opinion, Edmunds didn’t love the 2022 Toyota Sequoia. It came below average and last on the list of large SUVs. While it is large and has plenty of room, the interior is dated, and so is the technology. What it lacks in technology, it makes up for in comfort and off-road capability.

Blind-spot monitoring, pre-collision warning, and trailer sway control help make the Sequoia safer. Automatic emergency braking is also included, but the 2022 Sequoia doesn’t have many safety scores either.

MSRP range: $50,500 – $69,775

If you need the best large SUVs on the market for 2022, these three should get you started. Many people love the Toyota Sequoia, too, but it fell short during Edmunds’ testing. Depending on how much cargo you plan to carry and your towing needs, these options should have all the capabilities necessary.
