Consumer Reports Gives the 2022 Chevy Suburban a Poor Rating for Reliability
The 2022 Chevy Suburban is an iconic full-size SUV that offers families both small and large the versatility they need in an SUV they want. While the new Suburban is certainly stylish and comfortable, it isn’t exactly perfect. Consumer Reports gives it just a 1/5 for its predicted reliability, which obviously isn’t great. Here’s why Consumer Reports doesn’t have high hopes for the Suburban‘s reliability, and whether you should consider buying one.
Consumer Reports gives the 2022 Chevy Suburban a 1 for reliability
Consumer Reports gives the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban just a 1/5 for predicted reliability. If you’re thinking that’s not a great score, you’re right. A 1 is equal to a poor rating. So what makes Consumer Reports have such dire predictions for the newest Suburban? Consumer Reports says that it’s “based on Chevrolet’s brand history and the similar model Tahoe which it shares powertrain and components.”
What that means is that previous Chevrolet Suburbans haven’t proven to have great reliability ratings and Chevy’s reputation as a whole leads Consumer Reports to believe that the Suburban may have more problems than the average new SUV.
Are Chevy Suburbans reliable?
The Chevy Suburban as a whole has mixed reliability, though overall it isn’t great. While the 2019 Chevy Suburban has a good reliability rating, the 2018 Suburban has just an average reliability rating of 3/5. Things get worse when you go back further. The 2015, 2016, and 2017 Chevy Suburbans all have reliability ratings of just 1/5. Before that the only other reliability rating is from 2013 and it’s a 2/5.
So what are the biggest problem areas in the models with poor ratings? There are major engine issues, transmission problems, and the drive system. In addition, the suspension in the 2015, 2017, and 2017 models are poor. The paint and trim gets poor ratings in some models, as does power equipment, in-car electronics, and body hardware. There are other categories that are poor as well.
How much does the new Suburban cost?
The 2022 Chevy Suburban starts at $52,400. There are a whole variety of 2022 Chevrolet Suburban trim levels to choose from, and packages to add on. The 2022 Chevy Suburban LS is the base model, and it costs $54,095, according to Edmunds. The 2022 Suburban LS comes with a 5.3-liter V8 engine that makes 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. That’s matched to a 10-speed automatic transmission. It also comes with four-wheel drive. You can also get four-wheel drive on the 2022 Chevy Suburban LS.
The 2022 Chevy Suburban LS also comes with LED headlights, 18-inch wheels, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Chevrolet Suburban also comes with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and a whole slew of safety features including forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist.
The 2022 Chevy Suburban’s reliability is probably not going to be great. So is it something that you want to take a chance on? You might want to skip it and consider some other full-size SUVs with better reliability ratings, like the 2022 Ford Expedition.
