Consumer Reports Gives the 2022 Chevy Suburban a Poor Rating for Reliability

The 2022 Chevy Suburban is an iconic full-size SUV that offers families both small and large the versatility they need in an SUV they want. While the new Suburban is certainly stylish and comfortable, it isn’t exactly perfect. Consumer Reports gives it just a 1/5 for its predicted reliability, which obviously isn’t great. Here’s why Consumer Reports doesn’t have high hopes for the Suburban‘s reliability, and whether you should consider buying one.

Consumer Reports gives the 2022 Chevy Suburban a 1 for reliability

Consumer Reports gives the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban just a 1/5 for predicted reliability. If you’re thinking that’s not a great score, you’re right. A 1 is equal to a poor rating. So what makes Consumer Reports have such dire predictions for the newest Suburban? Consumer Reports says that it’s “based on Chevrolet’s brand history and the similar model Tahoe which it shares powertrain and components.”

What that means is that previous Chevrolet Suburbans haven’t proven to have great reliability ratings and Chevy’s reputation as a whole leads Consumer Reports to believe that the Suburban may have more problems than the average new SUV.

Are Chevy Suburbans reliable?

The Chevy Suburban as a whole has mixed reliability, though overall it isn’t great. While the 2019 Chevy Suburban has a good reliability rating, the 2018 Suburban has just an average reliability rating of 3/5. Things get worse when you go back further. The 2015, 2016, and 2017 Chevy Suburbans all have reliability ratings of just 1/5. Before that the only other reliability rating is from 2013 and it’s a 2/5.

So what are the biggest problem areas in the models with poor ratings? There are major engine issues, transmission problems, and the drive system. In addition, the suspension in the 2015, 2017, and 2017 models are poor. The paint and trim gets poor ratings in some models, as does power equipment, in-car electronics, and body hardware. There are other categories that are poor as well.
