Those seeking to purchase a hybrid SUV have a choice at Toyota dealerships, with the automaker offering both the RAV4 Hybrid and the Venza, a hybrid-only midsize crossover. The RAV4 Hybrid is one of the best-selling compact crossover hybrid SUVs on the market despite the current generation showing its age. The Venza isn’t as well-known, but it offers more premium accommodations for buyers seeking a midsize hybrid SUV from Toyota’s ranks. So, which is the more appealing choice?

2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vs. 2024 Toyota Venza: Power and performance

Both the 2024 Toyota Venza and 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid are powered by the same engine, namely a 2.5-liter four-cylinder paired with electric motors. While power output is the same between both models, the RAV4 Hybrid uses dual electric motors while the Venza sports three. Notably, both models are fitted exclusively with all-wheel drive and a continuously variable transmission.

The RAV4 Hybrid is slightly quicker from 0-60 mph, according to Car and Driver, likely a result of the RAV4 Hybrid’s slightly smaller dimensions and weight.

The RAV4 is more practical for hauling cargo, with nearly 9 more cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and nearly 19 more cubes with the back row folded away. Passenger space is more closely matched between the two Toyota SUVs. The Venza offers slightly better front headroom, but the RAV4 delivers marginally better front legroom, for instance.

The RAV4 Hybrid has a slight edge of 1 mpg better in the city, on the highway, and for its combined rating. Both models sport a 14.5-gallon fuel tank, so the RAV4 Hybrid should net buyers a few more miles on a single tank.

To note, the ratings below for the RAV4 Hybrid are for the non-Woodland Edition models. The Woodland models are slightly less efficient.

2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vs. 2024 Toyota Venza: Trim levels and pricing

The 2024 Toyor RAV4 Hybrid is available in seven trims starting at $31,475 MSRP, with the Hybrid Limited topping the range at $39,780.

The 2024 Toyota Venza is available in four trims starting at $34,920 MSRP, with the range-topping Limited model commanding $43,065.

The Venza’s higher price is a result of it being a more premium model versus the RAV4 Hybrid. As standard, the Venza features 18-inch wheels, a hands-free liftgate, keyless entry, satellite radio, wireless charging, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and some other features unavailable in the base RAV4 Hybrid. So, Venza buyers will pay more for a base model but get more standard kit for the extra money.

2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vs. 2024 Toyota Venza: Warranty coverage

As both part of the Toyota brand, the 2024 RAV4 Hybrid and 2024 Venza offer the same warranty coverage, namely a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty, a five-year/60,000-mile drivetrain warranty, and two years/unlimited miles of roadside assistance.

The 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and 2024 Toyota Venza share plenty of specs and characteristics, so ultimately, the choice between the two models can hinge on whether buyers prioritize a more upscale appearance and amenities versus pragmatism.

The Venza has a more handsome appearance inside and out, and its ride quality and features deliver a more upscale environment. It costs several thousand dollars more than the RAV4 Hybrid, but many could see that as a price they are willing to pay for the Venza’s most robust list of standard amenities.

However, the RAV4 Hybrid has a clear advantage for buyers who regularly need to haul plenty of cargo or transport a light trailer, as the Venza is not rated for towing while the RAV4 Hybrid is rated for up to 1,750 pounds.

Both models serve as efficient commuters and respectable family haulers. Still, those needing more practicality should opt for the RAV4 Hybrid, while buyers who want a more premium SUV should choose the Venza.
