The 2024 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 from the Mk5 generation of the historic nameplate is no dismissable presence in the sports car market. However, the latest Mk5 Supra has some steep competition that blurs the line between sports car and supercar: the C8-generation Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. So, can the Supra stand up to the performance king of Kentucky? Or is the Corvette doomed to yield to an international collaboration with a Toyota badge?

How powerful is the 2024 Toyota GR Supra 3.0?

The 2024 Toyota GR Supra has two engines in its library: a 255-horsepower 2.0L four-cylinder mill and a 3.0L B58 inline-six-cylinder for the upper trims. Still, neither option outmuscles competitors like the Nissan Z or Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.

Moreover, the Stingray adds five horsepower with the dual-mode performance exhaust option, not unlike its C7 predecessor. As a result, the base C8 Corvette Stingray Z51 will outmuscle the range-topping Mk5 Supra by 113 mid-engine ponies.

Despite the Mk5 Supra’s taut, capable platform, the mid-engine C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is faster in every category, from a short sprint to top speed.

In addition to acceleration and top speed, the Stingray out-corners the Mk5 Supra 3.0. According to Car and Driver, the fifth-generation Toyota GR Supra 3.0 returned a skidpad result of 1.02 g, while the C8 Corvette Z51 out-gripped it by 0.01 g.  While die-hard Supra fans might cringe at the thought, the balanced midengine ‘Vette is unequivocally faster.

The 2024 Toyota GR Supra starts at $45,540 for the 2.0 trim and demands an additional $9,000 for the quicker, more potent 3.0L model.

Supra 2.0$45,540
Supra 3.0$54,500
Supra 3.0 Premium$57,650
Supra 45th Anniversary$64,375

As a result, Supra fans can snag the 3.0 Premium trim for around $8,245 less than the entry-level C8 Corvette 1LT. Of course, sports car aficionados will almost certainly have to deal with markups for either model. That’s a serious consideration for sports car fans, as the difference between the two blacktop bruisers is 15% of the Supra’s entire price tag. Still, the Corvette is one of the cheapest midengine performance cars on the market.

The C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray outperforms the Mk5 Supra in nearly every metric, from acceleration and cornering force to cargo capacity. Of course, the category that many Supra fans will tout is the price; you simply can’t get an entry-level Corvette 1LT at the same starting point as a 2024 Toyota GR Supra 3.0.

Moreover, the Supra’s manual transmission is a welcome presence for drivers with a flare for flogging their fun factories, a feature that ‘Vette fans will go without.
